Highlights

• 320 hp from a 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline-six
• 82-litre fuel tank for long-distance cruising
• Four-zone automatic climate control standard

Summary

This 14-year-old BMW 740Li represents a significant opportunity in the GCC executive market, combining the prestige of a flagship long-wheelbase sedan with the relative mechanical simplicity of a 6-cylinder powertrain. With a mileage of 141,000 km, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the typical GCC average for its age, suggesting a history of careful use or seasonal driving. The brown exterior offers a sophisticated alternative to common silver tones, holding a steady resale position for buyers seeking a distinct look. As a GCC-spec model, it is factory-prepared for the region's heat with high-output cooling and robust insulation. For a buyer looking to enter the luxury segment, this 740Li offers the presence of an S-Class with BMW's signature driver-focused chassis at a more accessible entry point.

This Car vs Other 2012 740Lis

At 141,000 km, this example sits well below the expected mileage for a 14-year-old executive car in the GCC, which typically covers 20,000 km annually. The brown exterior is a sophisticated choice that resists the visual wear of desert dust better than darker blacks while remaining popular in the secondary luxury market. Finding a GCC-spec long-wheelbase version with this usage profile provides a distinct mechanical advantage over higher-mileage alternatives.

EXCLUSIVE vs Lower Trims

The Exclusive trim upgrades the 740Li experience with premium Dakota leather and fine-wood interior accents that elevate the cabin beyond the base model. It includes essential GCC features like soft-close doors and enhanced ambient lighting that adds to the executive feel during night drives between cities. Unlike the standard 740i, the 'Li' designation provides significantly more rear legroom, essential for chauffeur-driven comfort or family road trips.

740Li vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class of the same era, the 740Li offers a more engaging driving experience and a 50/50 weight distribution that makes it feel much lighter than its size suggests. The 3.0L inline-six provides a more efficient alternative to the V8 engines found in many Audi A8s, without sacrificing the highway overtaking power needed on the E11. Its 82-litre fuel tank ensures fewer stops during long-haul drives from Dubai to Muscat or Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this twin-turbo 6-cylinder averages approximately 10.0L/100km, which is efficient for a flagship sedan in GCC traffic. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from the wide availability of parts and expert technicians at authorized service centers across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While European luxury sedans face higher depreciation than Japanese rivals, the 740Li remains a high-demand model in the used market due to its iconic styling and status.

Performance & Capability

The 320 hp twin-turbocharged engine delivers smooth, linear power, reaching 100 km/h in approximately 6 seconds. This performance makes it exceptionally capable for fast-moving highway traffic, where it maintains high-speed stability with minimal wind noise. The long wheelbase and adaptive suspension provide a 'magic carpet' ride quality that smooths out road imperfections during long inter-city commutes.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is designed for maximum summer comfort, featuring a high-performance four-zone climate control system that ensures rear passengers remain cool even in 45°C heat. The cabin is insulated with acoustic glass, creating a quiet sanctuary from city noise, while the extended wheelbase provides genuine limousine-grade legroom. Tech highlights include the 10.2-inch iDrive display and a premium audio system, perfect for the long UAE highway stretches.

Safety

Standard safety equipment includes a comprehensive suite of front, side, and knee airbags, along with Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) to maintain traction on sandy or rain-slicked surfaces. The inclusion of a standard rearview camera and front/rear parking sensors is particularly helpful for maneuvering this long-wheelbase sedan in tight urban parking. Adaptive Bi-Xenon headlights provide superior visibility during nighttime desert highway driving.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec 740Li is the ideal choice for an executive or family seeking flagship BMW luxury with below-average mileage and a region-ready specification.
