Audi has been making up for lost time ever since the legendary Quattro broke cover in 1980, this second generation RS5 now offers everything from a compact hot hatch to a full-blooded supercar, but it’s the sleek RS5 that’s closest in spirit to the famous eighties original, with its smooth coupe lines, muscular V8 powerplant, grippy four-wheel-drive, sporty transmission, and a four-seater cabin, this 2015 RS5 is a supercar for all seasons. There is no substitute for a high-performance, naturally aspirated V8. A peek under the hood reveals an engine that would not look out of place in a Ferrari. Red cam covers and a carbon-fibre-encrusted intake manifold are pure eye candy, but this V8 is no poseur; it displays the same willingness to spin and quick throttle response as do the engines from Maranello, having bucked the forced-induction trend, this naturally aspirated V8 is graced with linear power delivery, with no peaks or hiccups, and it surges steadily until the limiter cuts in. It is a race-worthy engine.
Powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8 that makes 450 hp and 430Nm of torque. That is 20 more hp the Lamborghini-based R8 and gets up to 100kms in just 4.5 seconds! The RS5’s power is driven through a seven-speed dual-clutch S Tronic gearbox. You will not hear us condemn this transmission; Audi has sped up the dual-clutch’s shift times by reworking the transmission’s hydraulics. Shifts are banged off very quickly! Like all modern Audis, the RS5’s handling is safe and predictable. As you approach its limit, the RS5 inspires confidence, not fear.
