Summary

This 2016 Ford Explorer Limited offers a premium seven-seat configuration that bridges the gap between a practical family hauler and a luxury SUV. Finished in white, the most favored color for resale in the UAE, this Korean-spec example features the 2.0L EcoBoost engine which prioritizes efficiency for daily commutes and inter-emirate highway runs. With mileage under 95,000 km, it sits well below the typical usage expected for a vehicle of this age in the GCC, representing a strong long-term value proposition. The Limited trim significantly upgrades the cabin experience with high-end materials and technology that rivals many dedicated luxury brands. For families across the region, this is a versatile choice that balances road presence with sensible running costs.

This Car vs Other 2016 Explorers

With just over 93,000 km on the odometer, this Explorer has been driven approximately 11,500 km per year—significantly less than the GCC annual average of 20,000–25,000 km. Its white exterior is not only the most practical choice for reflecting intense Gulf heat but also remains the strongest resale color in the regional market. While many 2016 models available locally have high mileage from years of cross-border travel, this unit's preserved condition makes it a standout entry in the pre-owned segment.

Limited vs Lower Trims

Choosing the Limited trim over the XLT adds essential GCC luxury features, most notably the ventilated front seats which are vital during the peak summer months. It also upgrades the tech suite with a 12-speaker Sony premium audio system and adds visual presence with 20-inch polished alloy wheels. Additionally, the Limited includes power-folding third-row seats and a front-view camera, providing a level of convenience and safety not found in the base or mid-range configurations.

Explorer vs Segment Rivals

The Explorer leads rivals like the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander by offering a more sophisticated unibody chassis that provides car-like handling on highways while maintaining a commanding SUV stance. Its infotainment and seat-folding technology are often cited as more intuitive than its Japanese competitors, making it a favorite for large families. The 2.0L EcoBoost powertrain also offers a distinct balance for those who prefer turbo-charged efficiency over the larger naturally aspirated engines typical of this segment.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.0L EcoBoost engine provides a combined fuel consumption of approximately 8.1 L/100km, offering better efficiency for city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh compared to the 3.5L V6 variants. While this is a Korean-spec vehicle, the high volume of Ford models in the region ensures that parts and routine service consumables are widely available at independent garages across the GCC. As a mainstream American SUV, it follows a standard depreciation curve, but the Limited trim and white paint help it retain a higher percentage of its value compared to base-spec imports.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with the 200 hp EcoBoost engine and Four Wheel Drive, this Explorer is tuned for stability and smooth highway cruising. The intelligent 4WD system provides added confidence during rainy winter months or when navigating gravel paths leading to weekend camping spots. While designed as a road-biased crossover, its 200mm ground clearance is more than sufficient for tackling the high speed bumps and varied terrain typical of suburban GCC developments.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a true three-row environment, featuring leather-trimmed seating for seven and a three-zone automatic climate control system that ensures rear passengers stay cool in extreme heat. The Limited trim focuses heavily on refinement, utilizing acoustic glass to isolate the interior from road noise during long desert highway drives. Tech highlights include the SYNC system and ambient lighting, creating a premium atmosphere for both the daily school run and long family road trips across the emirates.

Safety

Standard safety for this trim includes a comprehensive suite of airbags, including front-seat side, side-curtain, and driver/passenger knee bags. Advanced features such as the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and Cross-Traffic Alert are standard on the Limited, providing essential support when navigating busy multi-lane highways. A 180-degree front camera and a standard rear-view camera make parking this large SUV effortless in tight urban environments.

The bottom line

This Ford Explorer Limited is the ideal match for a family looking for premium features and low mileage without the overhead of a large-displacement engine. It represents a smart opportunity to own a high-spec SUV that is perfectly suited for the UAE's lifestyle and climate.
