Summary

This 2016 Jaguar XE S offers a rare opportunity to own the range-topping performance variant of Jaguar's compact sedan, featuring the same soulful supercharged engine found in the F-Type. While the mileage reflects a well-traveled life on GCC highways, the silver exterior remains a top-tier choice for resale and heat management in the region. The S trim stands out with its aggressive body styling and significantly higher power output compared to the standard four-cylinder models. For the driver who prioritizes engagement and character over a base-spec commuter, this XE S provides a sophisticated British alternative to the German status quo. In the local market, finding the V6 variant is increasingly difficult, making this a standout choice for enthusiasts.

This Car vs Other 2016 XEs

With 231,000 km, this vehicle has covered more distance than the typical GCC annual average of 25,000 km, suggesting extensive use for long-range commutes between emirates. The silver finish is one of the most practical colors for the local climate, showing less dust and maintaining better paint integrity under the sun than darker shades. While the mileage is high, it is balanced by the exclusivity of the S trim’s supercharged V6, which is far more desirable in the secondary market than the high-mileage 2.0L versions.

S vs Lower Trims

The S trim is the performance flagship, swapping the standard 2.0L inline-four for a potent 3.0L supercharged V6 producing 340 hp. Beyond the engine, it adds unique S-branded bodywork, larger air intakes, and red brake calipers that signal its sports car DNA. Inside, you get higher-grade Taurus leather sports seats and the upgraded Meridian sound system as standard, features that lower trims like the Prestige or R-Sport often leave as cost options.

XE vs Segment Rivals

The XE S competes directly with the BMW 340i and Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG, leading the segment in chassis agility thanks to its aluminum-intensive architecture. While German rivals often rely on turbocharging, the Jaguar's supercharged V6 provides immediate throttle response that is better suited for rapid highway overtaking in fast-moving GCC traffic. Its distinct British styling also offers more exclusivity on the road compared to the ubiquitous German executive sedans.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the supercharged V6 averages around 11.6 L/100km in city driving, dropping significantly during steady-speed highway cruising. Standard service intervals for Jaguar in the GCC are typically every 13,000 km or 12 months, with a well-established network of authorized centers across the UAE, KSA, and Oman. While European sedans in this bracket experience higher annual depreciation than Japanese rivals, the V6 S model retains its value better due to its status as a discontinued powertrain in later model years.

Performance & Capability

The headline figure is the 5.1-second 0–100 km/h sprint, powered by the 340 hp supercharged engine that delivers a linear power band perfect for the open roads of the GCC. With a limited top speed of 250 km/h and rear-wheel-drive dynamics, it provides a balanced and engaging driving experience that mimics a true sports coupe. The 8-speed ZF automatic transmission is calibrated for quick shifts, ensuring you always have power on tap for high-speed lane changes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed around the driver, featuring a 5-seat layout with supportive sports bolsters that remain comfortable on long cross-border drives. The dual-zone climate control is engineered to handle extreme summer temperatures, supported by dedicated rear vents to keep all passengers cool. High-quality materials and the tactile Jaguar Drive Control rotary shifter create a premium atmosphere that feels distinct from more clinical competitors.

Safety

Safety is a core strength, with this generation of XE earning a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. Standard equipment includes Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and a comprehensive six-airbag system. For GCC highway driving, the stability control and emergency brake assist provide essential protection during sudden stops in heavy traffic or on sandy road surfaces.

The bottom line

This XE S is the ideal choice for an enthusiast seeking F-Type performance in a practical sedan body that has proven its reliability over long GCC highway stretches.
