Summary

This 2016 Prado VXR offers an exceptional opportunity for GCC buyers, featuring remarkably low mileage of just 55,440 km—nearly three times less than the average for its age in this region. The black exterior remains one of the most desirable colors for resale in the local market, ensuring long-term value retention. As a 2.7-liter VXR trim, it balances manageable urban running costs with the premium interior finishes usually reserved for the V6 models. This is the ideal choice for a driver who prioritizes Toyota's legendary reliability and cabin comfort for daily city use while maintaining genuine off-road capability for weekend trips. Given the scarcity of such low-mileage GCC-spec examples, this listing represents a highly secure automotive investment.

This Car vs Other 2016 Prados

With only 55,440 km on the odometer, this vehicle has averaged roughly 7,000 km per year, which is significantly lower than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average seen in the GCC. While many 2016 models on the market have surpassed the 150,000 km mark, this example offers a mechanical life expectancy closer to a much newer vehicle. The black paintwork is a high-demand choice in the UAE and wider region, often commanding a quicker sale and better price at trade-in compared to niche colors.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim elevates the Prado experience by adding premium leather upholstery and LED headlamps with auto-levelling, features often missing from the base EXR or mid-spec GXR trims. It also includes enhanced cabin technology such as a multi-information display and a more refined instrument cluster, providing a luxury feel that mirrors the larger Land Cruiser. For the GCC climate, the VXR’s superior interior materials and dual-zone automatic climate control provide a noticeably more comfortable environment during peak summer months.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

The Prado consistently leads competitors like the Mitsubishi Pajero and Ford Explorer in terms of interior durability and regional parts availability. Its body-on-frame construction provides a level of ruggedness for desert driving that monocoque rivals cannot match, while the 87-litre fuel tank ensures greater range for long-distance highway hauls between emirates. Unlike many in its class, the Prado’s resale value remains remarkably stable, often retaining a higher percentage of its value after five years than its American or European counterparts.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7-liter engine is known for its mechanical simplicity and lower fuel consumption in stop-start city traffic compared to the larger V6, making it a cost-effective daily driver. Toyota’s authorised service network is the most extensive in the GCC, ensuring easy access to maintenance and genuine parts from Dubai to Muscat. Historically, GCC-spec Prados depreciate at a slower rate of approximately 7-9% annually, significantly outperforming the industry average. This model remains one of the most liquid assets in the used car market, frequently selling faster than any other SUV in its segment.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with a full-time 4WD system and a dedicated low-range transfer case, this Prado is a legitimate off-roader capable of navigating soft sand and steep dunes. The 160 hp powertrain is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, providing a smooth and reliable experience for urban commuting and steady highway cruising. With a ground clearance of approximately 215 mm, it easily clears common obstacles found in desert wadis or during weekend camping trips. The All-Wheel Drive system provides constant stability, which is particularly beneficial on rain-slicked roads or gravel tracks across the region.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat configuration is designed for family versatility, featuring a flat-folding third row to maximize cargo space when needed. The VXR trim specifically features high-quality leather seating and a leather-trimmed steering wheel, enhancing the tactile feel of the cabin. Essential for the GCC, the powerful air conditioning system includes dedicated rear vents to ensure all passengers remain cool even when temperatures exceed 45°C. Added conveniences like a cooled center console or 'cool box' provide a significant advantage for keeping beverages chilled during long summer drives.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with 7 airbags standard on this trim, including curtain and driver-knee protection. Active safety features include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), and ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, which are essential for maintaining control on sandy or uneven surfaces. The VXR also benefits from front and rear parking sensors along with a rearview camera, making the large SUV easy to maneuver in tight city parking spaces. These systems are specifically calibrated to handle the high-heat and high-dust environments typical of the GCC.

The bottom line

This is a rare, low-mileage GCC-spec Prado VXR that combines the prestige of a top-tier trim with the sensible running costs of the 2.7L engine. It is the perfect opportunity for a buyer seeking a reliable, high-resale family SUV that feels and drives like a much newer car.
