Summary

This specific Ferrari 488 is an exceptional find in the GCC market, combining extremely low mileage for its year with the most iconic color choice possible for the brand. Having covered just 24,000 km since 2017, it sits far below the average usage typical for performance cars in the region, ensuring the mechanical components remain in peak condition. The 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 offers a level of visceral response that redefined the supercar segment, making it a more engaging drive than several newer rivals. While being a European specification model, it has been maintained to high standards, which is a critical factor for long-term reliability in our climate. This car represents a perfect balance of modern technology and the raw driving soul Ferrari is known for, making it a stable asset for any local collector. For a buyer in the UAE or across the GCC, this listing stands out as a well-preserved example of one of Maranello’s most successful mid-rear engine designs.

This Car vs Other 2017 488s

When looking at the 2017 488 market in the GCC, this particular unit is a standout due to its remarkably low odometer reading. While many supercars in the region see frequent weekend use on the long stretches of highway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, this car has averaged less than 3,500 km per year. This low usage means the interior leather and switchgear haven't been subjected to the typical wear and tear associated with more active examples. The classic red exterior is the most sought-after color for resale in the Middle East, consistently commanding a premium and selling faster than more experimental shades. Despite being a European specification, the car’s condition suggests it has been kept in climate-controlled environments, protecting it from the intense UV exposure common in our region. Compared to other 2017 models currently available, this car offers a preservation level that is increasingly difficult to find as these models move into the hands of long-term owners.

Not specified vs Lower Trims

As the primary performance offering in its year, the 488 GTB moved the needle significantly forward with its integration of Formula 1-derived technology. This model features the Side Slip Angle Control 2 (SSC2) system, which was a major advancement over earlier iterations, allowing for more precise handling through the winding roads of Jebel Hafeet. The interior is focused on the driver, featuring high-grade materials and an ergonomic layout that emphasizes the steering wheel-mounted controls for the Manettino, lights, and wipers. Unlike the naturally aspirated predecessors, this turbocharged heart provides a massive surge of torque available almost instantly, which is ideal for the rapid pace of GCC traffic. The inclusion of a highly sophisticated dual-clutch transmission ensures that gear changes are near-instantaneous, providing a level of smoothness that makes it surprisingly usable for more than just track days. Buyers also benefit from the improved aerodynamics that were built into this specific body style, including the blown spoiler and large side intakes.

488 vs Segment Rivals

In the highly competitive world of mid-engine supercars, the Ferrari 488 competes directly with the Lamborghini Huracán and the McLaren 720S. While the Huracán offers the sound of a V10, the 488 leads with its sophisticated chassis balance and the sheer agility provided by its clever electronic differential. The Ferrari's 3.9L twin-turbo V8 is widely considered one of the best-engineered engines of the decade, offering a more linear soul-stirring power delivery compared to the clinical approach of the McLaren. For GCC highway driving, the 488 provides a more comfortable grand-touring personality than many of its rivals, with a cabin that feels more substantial and better insulated. Its infotainment and air conditioning systems are robust, handling the high ambient temperatures of a Dubai summer more effectively than some of its niche European competitors. Ultimately, the 488 maintains a level of prestige and brand heritage in the Middle East that rivals simply cannot match, leading to stronger long-term desirability.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a Ferrari 488 in the GCC is a manageable experience thanks to the well-established service networks in major cities like Dubai, Riyadh, and Doha. While this is a European spec car, the local Ferrari service centers are fully equipped to handle maintenance, though it is important to ensure all local compliance and software updates are current. Real-world fuel consumption for the 3.9L V8 is surprisingly efficient for a supercar, particularly during steady highway cruising between emirates, though city traffic will naturally see higher consumption from the 661 hp engine. These cars generally require service every 12 months or 20,000 km, involving specialized oil changes and comprehensive system checks. The 488 has shown remarkable price stability in the used market, typically depreciating at a slower rate than its primary competitors from the same era. At the seven-year mark, a well-maintained, low-mileage red 488 remains one of the safest high-end automotive investments in the region, often retaining more than 60% of its original value if kept in excellent condition.

Performance & Capability

The performance of the 488 is defined by its breathtaking 0–100 km/h time of just 3.0 seconds, a figure that puts it in the elite tier of modern machinery. With 661 horsepower and 760 Nm of torque, it delivers a level of acceleration that makes highway overtaking on the E11 effortless and exhilarating. Its top speed of over 330 km/h is supported by advanced active aerodynamics that adjust according to speed to maximize downforce and stability. The car features multiple driving modes accessible via the Manettino dial on the steering wheel, allowing the driver to transition from a 'Wet' mode—useful for the occasional GCC rain storm—to a 'Race' mode for maximum engagement. The carbon-ceramic braking system is standard, providing fade-free stopping power that is essential when driving at high speeds in warm climates. Despite its low-slung nature, the front-end lift system (where equipped) allows it to navigate the speed bumps found in residential areas like Jumeirah or Emirates Hills with relative ease.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 488 offers a strictly two-seat environment that prioritizes the connection between the car and its occupants. The cabin is surprisingly spacious for a supercar, offering sufficient legroom for taller drivers—a common consideration for the diverse demographic in the UAE. The air conditioning system is particularly powerful, a hallmark of modern Ferrari engineering that ensures the cabin stays chilled even during 45-degree afternoons. The seats are typically upholstered in premium Italian leather, providing the perfect balance of lateral support for corners and cushioning for longer journeys. While the focus is on the engine note, the audio system is of high quality, providing a clear soundtrack for those quieter drives across the desert. Storage is limited but efficient, with a front boot that can accommodate two weekend bags, making it a viable option for a luxury getaway to a resort in RAK or Fujairah. The build quality throughout the interior reflects the hand-assembled nature of the vehicle, using carbon fiber and aluminum to create a high-tech atmosphere.

Safety

Safety in the 488 is handled by a suite of advanced electronic systems that working invisibly to keep the driver in control. The Side Slip Angle Control system acts as a sophisticated safety net, managing traction and stability in a way that feels natural rather than intrusive. High-performance ABS and EBD work in tandem with the carbon-ceramic brakes to ensure short stopping distances under all conditions. Front and side airbags provide protection in the cabin, while the high-strength aluminum spaceframe chassis offers excellent structural integrity. For the fast-moving traffic of the GCC, the car's exceptional visibility (for a mid-engine car) and sharp steering response serve as active safety features, allowing for quick maneuvers when needed. The LED lighting system provides powerful illumination for nighttime driving on unlit desert roads, ensuring the path ahead is always clear.

The bottom line

This Ferrari 488 is the ideal choice for a discerning GCC buyer who seeks the prestige of the Scuderia Ferrari badge with the security of low mileage and the most iconic color configuration. It represents a rare chance to own a modern classic at its peak performance level, offering both an incredible driving experience and excellent resale potential in the local market.
