Summary

This GCC-spec sedan is a textbook example of a smart daily driver in the UAE, offering a refined cabin and exceptional fuel efficiency that rivals the smallest hatchbacks. While the mileage reflects steady highway use typical for a 2017 model in this region, the grey exterior remains one of the most resilient choices for maintaining resale value against the desert sun. The EX trim elevates the experience from a basic commuter to a tech-forward sedan, featuring integrated smartphone connectivity and a sunroof that many entry-level rivals lack. Honda’s reputation for mechanical longevity makes this a secure choice for those prioritizing low running costs without sacrificing modern style. For a buyer in the Gulf, the combination of Al-Futtaim service support and high demand for used Civics ensures a stress-free ownership cycle.

This Car vs Other 2017 Civics

With 152,000 km, this vehicle sits within the expected range for a seven-year-old GCC commuter, where long-distance highway travel between Emirates is common. Unlike American imports, this GCC-spec unit features a cooling system and interior materials specifically designed to withstand peak summer temperatures above 45°C. The grey metallic paint is a strategic advantage, as it is among the top three colors for resale speed and value retention in the UAE used market.

EX vs Lower Trims

The EX trim provides a significant technology leap over the base DX and LX models, most notably replacing the basic radio with a 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Owners also benefit from premium conveniences like remote engine start—essential for pre-cooling the cabin—Smart Entry with push-button start, and a one-touch power moonroof. It also adds a rear center armrest and upgraded 8-speaker audio, making it a much more comfortable environment for family trips.

Civic vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Toyota Corolla 1.6 or Nissan Sunny, the Civic leads with a more sophisticated multi-link rear suspension that provides a sportier, more stable ride on high-speed bypass roads. While the Corolla focuses on absolute utility, the Civic offers a more driver-centric interior and better fuel economy, officially rated as low as 5.4 L/100km. It also provides superior rear legroom, often cited as being nearly mid-size in its dimensions, which gives it a practical edge for growing families.

Running Costs & Resale

Honda’s 1.6-liter engine is one of the most economical powertrains in the region, typically requiring 91-octane fuel and delivering impressive range from its 47-liter tank. Authorized service centers are widely available across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, with standard minor service intervals every 10,000 km keeping maintenance predictable. The Civic traditionally experiences a lower depreciation rate than its European counterparts, retaining approximately 65-70% of its value after three years in the GCC market.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6-liter i-VTEC engine produces 156 hp, providing a smooth and linear power delivery through the CVT that is perfectly suited for urban stop-start traffic. It reaches a top speed of 200 km/h and maintains excellent stability at typical UAE highway speeds of 120-140 km/h. While not a performance car, its low center of gravity and independent front and rear suspension make it one of the most agile front-wheel-drive sedans in its class.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for GCC comfort, featuring high-output air conditioning with dedicated rear vents to ensure all five passengers stay cool during the summer months. The EX trim's acoustic windshield and refined insulation significantly reduce tire and wind noise during long desert drives between cities. The 430-liter boot provides ample space for grocery runs or weekend luggage, while the 60:40 split rear seats allow for flexible cargo configurations.

Safety

Safety is anchored by Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, which earned a 5-star rating from global safety bodies. This EX trim includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a multi-angle rearview camera with dynamic guidelines to simplify parking in tight city spots. Standard ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution ensures reliable stopping power on both hot tarmac and occasional rain-slicked surfaces.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Civic EX is the ideal balance of Japanese reliability and modern tech, making it a high-value opportunity for a buyer seeking a low-maintenance, fuel-efficient daily driver that holds its value.
