Summary

This 2017 Kia Sportage EX MID is a reliable choice for those seeking a practical family SUV with a proven track record in the region. At nine years old with 133,000 km, its mileage is well within the expected range for the GCC, where highway-heavy commutes are standard. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the local climate, masking desert dust effectively while maintaining strong resale appeal. As an EX trim, it offers a more refined cabin experience than the base models, making it an ideal balance of features and affordability. With Kia's widespread service presence, maintaining this workhorse across the Emirates remains straightforward and cost-effective.

This Car vs Other 2017 Sportages

With 133,000 km on the odometer, this Sportage has averaged roughly 14,700 km per year, which is significantly lower than the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. This lower-than-expected usage suggests better mechanical preservation than many high-mileage highway commuters from the same year. The Grey finish is a smart choice for the local market, offering a neutral and desirable look that supports faster resale and better value retention.

EX MID vs Lower Trims

The EX MID trim provides a meaningful step up from the base LX, introducing premium touches that GCC buyers value. It typically adds features such as leather-wrapped steering wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, and rear parking sensors that are often missing on entry-level models. These enhancements, combined with upgraded interior materials, provide a more executive feel during daily commutes and long family trips between cities.

Sportage vs Segment Rivals

The Sportage competes directly with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, standing out for its user-friendly technology and often more aggressive styling. While rivals focus on utility, the Sportage offers a more car-like driving dynamic and a robust chassis that handles high-speed highway stability exceptionally well. Its 543-litre boot provides competitive cargo space, making it a versatile companion for weekend family getaways across the GCC.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.4L petrol engine delivers a balanced fuel economy of approximately 9.6 L/100km, which is efficient for GCC stop-start city traffic and long-distance desert highways. Kia is renowned for having one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the region, ensuring parts are affordable and readily available in every emirate. Historically, the Sportage retains its value well among Korean SUVs, benefiting from high demand in the secondary market for reliable family transport.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with a refined 4-cylinder engine and a smooth 6-speed automatic transmission, this Sportage is designed for predictable and comfortable performance. It offers enough power for confident overtaking on the E11 and maintains composure at highway speeds. While built primarily for the road, its ground clearance allows it to handle gravel paths and light sandy tracks typical of weekend outdoor spots in the UAE with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is designed with passenger comfort in mind, featuring supportive seating and ample legroom in both rows. Essential for the GCC summer, the air conditioning system is robust, complemented by rear cooling vents to keep all passengers comfortable during peak temperatures. The cabin insulation is well-tuned to minimize wind noise, making it a quiet environment for long journeys across borders.

Safety

This trim includes essential safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and multiple airbags for occupant protection. Standard rear parking sensors provide extra confidence in tight city parking, while the 5-star safety architecture ensures peace of mind for family use. The braking system is tuned for reliability in the high-heat conditions of the region, ensuring consistent stopping power when it's needed most.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a well-maintained, mid-trim SUV with lower-than-average mileage for its age, this Sportage represents a secure and practical investment in the GCC market.
