Summary

This 2017 Nissan Armada SL represents the first year of the model's major redesign, moving to the rugged and globally respected Patrol-based platform. Finished in versatile Grey, it offers a sophisticated balance of family comfort and heavy-duty capability that few in its class can match. While the mileage reflects its life as a reliable long-distance cruiser, the durability of its body-on-frame architecture makes it a dependable choice for GCC roads. For buyers needing serious towing power and a spacious eight-cylinder interior without the premium price of a luxury badge, this American-spec SUV is a highly practical solution. Its blend of high-output V8 performance and premium SL cabin features ensures it remains a competitive alternative to newer, more expensive rivals.

This Car vs Other 2017 Nissan Armadas

At 176,500 km, this Armada has been driven roughly 25,000 km per year, which aligns perfectly with typical GCC highway usage. Its Grey exterior is one of the most resilient choices for the region, showing less dust and maintaining better resale appeal than darker tones. While it is an American-spec vehicle, the mechanical components share high commonality with local models, ensuring parts remain readily available.

SL vs Lower Trims

The SL trim provides a significant luxury boost over the base SV, most notably adding leather-appointed seating and a 360-degree Around View Monitor which is essential for maneuvering a vehicle of this size. It also introduces a power-folding third row and a power liftgate, features that GCC families prioritize for daily convenience. Additionally, the SL rides on larger 20-inch wheels and includes remote engine start, a vital feature for pre-cooling the cabin during intense summer months.

Armada vs Segment Rivals

The Armada stands out against the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition by utilizing the heavy-duty chassis of the Nissan Patrol, giving it a more robust feel on varied terrain. It offers a higher standard towing capacity of 3,855 kg (8,500 lbs), outperforming several base-engine competitors in the segment. Furthermore, the standard 13-speaker Bose audio system provides a more premium acoustic experience than the entry-level systems found in many rivals.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 5.6L V8 typically averages around 15.5 L/100km, performing best on long inter-city highway runs between Emirates. Service intervals are generally every 10,000 km, though more frequent oil changes are recommended in extreme GCC heat to preserve the Endurance V8. Nissan enjoys one of the widest authorized service networks across the UAE and Saudi Arabia, contributing to a slower depreciation rate of approximately 10-12% annually compared to less common American-spec imports.

Performance & Capability

Under the hood is a powerful 389 hp V8 engine that delivers effortless overtaking power on the E11 and ample torque for towing large trailers or boats. The 2017 redesign brought a new 7-speed automatic transmission that improves refinement and highway cruising efficiency over previous generations. With 231 mm (9.1 inches) of ground clearance and a selectable Four-Wheel Drive system, it is well-equipped for weekend family camping trips and light desert exploration.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for seven-passenger comfort, featuring multi-zone climate control with dedicated rear vents to ensure all rows stay cool in 45°C+ weather. Acoustic glass is standard on the windshield and front side windows, creating a quiet environment for long-distance travel across the GCC. The SL trim’s leather interior and wood-tone accents provide an upscale feel that bridges the gap between a standard family hauler and a luxury SUV.

Safety

Safety is comprehensive with six standard airbags and a 360-degree Around View Monitor that includes Moving Object Detection for enhanced visibility in tight parking spaces. The SL trim features front and rear parking sensors and a tire pressure monitoring system that is particularly useful during high-temperature highway driving. Its body-on-frame construction provides a rigid safety cell, while electronic stability control and traction systems help manage the vehicle's mass on sandy or wet surfaces.

The bottom line

Perfect for large families or outdoor enthusiasts, this Armada SL offers the rugged Patrol DNA and V8 power at a fraction of the cost of a new model. It is a smart opportunity for a buyer who values mechanical durability and premium cabin tech in a proven, high-capacity package.
