Summary

This 2018 Hyundai Tucson GLS is an exceptionally well-positioned family crossover for the UAE market, offering the preferred 2.4-litre engine for better highway performance than the standard 2.0-litre units. At 8 years old with just over 100,000 km, its mileage sits perfectly within the average expected for a well-maintained GCC vehicle, suggesting consistent but not excessive use. The Black exterior is a perennially strong resale color in the region, ensuring better liquidity when it comes time to upgrade. Compared to its rivals, the Tucson stands out for its straightforward mechanical reliability and cooling efficiency, which are essential for year-round GCC driving. For a buyer seeking a hassle-free daily driver with the extra security of All Wheel Drive, this specific GLS listing represents a balanced and low-risk investment.

This Car vs Other 2018 Tucsons

While many 2018 Tucsons in the GCC market are equipped with the base 2.0-litre engine, this model features the larger 2.4-litre powertrain, providing a noticeable boost in confidence for highway merging. With 100,357 km, it tracks close to the regional average of 12,500 km per year, indicating it has avoided the high-mileage wear typical of delivery or long-range commuter vehicles. The Black finish is highly desirable in the UAE, maintaining its shine well and supporting a higher resale value than less common colors.

GLS vs Lower Trims

The GLS trim is a significant step up from the base GL, offering critical upgrades like a rear-view camera and parking sensors that simplify navigating tight Dubai parking bays. It also includes upgraded alloy wheels and roof rails that enhance the SUV's profile, along with cruise control which is a necessity for the long highway stretches between Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates. Higher-grade interior materials and better sound insulation make the GLS cabin noticeably more refined during high-speed cruising.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

The Tucson leads competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Kia Sportage by offering one of the most user-friendly infotainment layouts in the segment, ensuring less distraction while driving. Its air conditioning system is widely regarded as one of the best for quickly neutralizing the GCC summer heat, often outperforming its European counterparts. Furthermore, the 2.4-litre engine provides a smoother power delivery than the smaller turbocharged units found in some newer rivals, favoring long-term mechanical simplicity.

Running Costs & Resale

With a combined fuel consumption of approximately 8.7 L/100km, the Tucson remains economical for both city traffic in Riyadh and open-road drives to Muscat. Hyundai’s service network is one of the most robust in the GCC, with authorized centers like Juma Al Majid in the UAE providing readily available parts and predictable maintenance costs. The 2018 model retains its value well, typically depreciating at a slower rate of 10-12% annually compared to luxury crossovers in the same age bracket.

Performance & Capability

The 181 hp 2.4-litre GDI engine provides reliable power, allowing this Tucson to handle full passenger loads without feeling strained on the highway. The All Wheel Drive system offers added stability during the UAE's occasional heavy rain and provides the necessary traction for light gravel tracks or soft sand near weekend camping spots. With a 62-litre fuel tank, it offers a substantial cruising range, reducing the frequency of stops during cross-border road trips.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the five-seat layout provides generous legroom for both front and rear passengers, while the 515-litre boot easily accommodates family grocery runs or airport luggage. The GLS trim features rear A/C vents, a vital feature for keeping second-row passengers comfortable during the peak summer months. Excellent cabin insulation helps maintain a quiet environment, filtering out the wind noise typically associated with high-speed highway travel.

Safety

Safety is anchored by a comprehensive suite of standard features including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is essential for monitoring heat-related pressure changes. This GLS also includes multiple airbags and Hill-start Assist Control, providing peace of mind during steep underground parking exits or inclined roads in mountainous regions like Hatta.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec 2.4L Tucson GLS is the ideal choice for a small family or professional looking for a dependable, high-spec SUV that balances power with legendary Korean reliability. It offers the perfect mix of manageable mileage and the most desirable regional specifications, making it a safe purchase in the current market.
