The Z4 M40i is the sportiest version, and has a 3.0-litre 335bhp, six-cylinder engine that's good for a 0-100 time of just over 4.5 seconds. Inevitably it feels much more agile – hardly a shock – and turns into corners with considerable eagerness. The standard eight-speed automatic gearbox which makes it sharp to react when left in Drive and nicely interactive when you start manually shifting with the paddle shifters.
