Hyundai Tucson GL MID

Highlights

• 2.4L Theta GDI engine with all-wheel drive
• 878 litres of cargo capacity behind second row
• Extensive GCC authorized service network

Summary

This 2019 Hyundai Tucson GL MID is a highly practical choice for the UAE, offering the larger 2.4L engine for better highway merging compared to base 2.0L models. With just over 100,000 km, the mileage is slightly below the GCC annual average, making it an attractive mid-lifecycle option. Its Grey exterior is a versatile, high-resale color that manages the region's dust exceptionally well. The inclusion of All-Wheel Drive provides extra stability during heavy seasonal rains and light sandy weekend escapes. As one of the region's most popular crossovers, it benefits from excellent parts availability and a reputation for enduring extreme heat.

This Car vs Other 2019 Tucsons

At 101,000 km, this vehicle has been driven roughly 20,000 km per year, which is below the typical GCC average of 25,000 km. While many 2019 Tucsons in the market utilize the smaller 2.0L engine, this unit features the 2.4L GDI powerplant, offering a more capable drive for long commutes between Emirates. The Grey exterior is a strategic choice for the local market, holding its value better than niche colors due to its high demand and heat-reflective properties.

GL MID vs Lower Trims

The GL MID (equivalent to the North American SEL/Value tiers) introduces critical features that GCC buyers value, such as standard roof rails and larger alloy wheels for a more premium stance. Inside, you benefit from dual-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear-seat vents—a non-negotiable for summer comfort that lower trims often omit. It also adds safety tech like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which are essential for navigating fast-moving multi-lane highways.

Tucson vs Segment Rivals

The Tucson stands out against rivals like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V by offering one of the most user-friendly infotainment systems and a highly competitive cargo volume of 878 litres. While the RAV4 leads in absolute resale, the Tucson offers a more compliant ride quality on suburban streets and a significantly more accessible price point for similar tech features. Its service network is among the largest in the Middle East, rivaling only Toyota for ease of maintenance in remote areas.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.4L AWD averages approximately 9.5 L/100km, which is respectable for a naturally aspirated SUV in stop-start city traffic. Maintenance is straightforward with 10,000 km service intervals, and Hyundai’s massive presence in the UAE, KSA, and Oman ensures that parts are affordable and always in stock. While European rivals depreciate faster, the Tucson maintains a strong second-hand market position, typically retaining around 60-65% of its value after three years in the GCC.

Performance & Capability

The 177 horsepower 2.4L engine provides a noticeable boost in torque over the entry-level engine, making it much better suited for high-speed cruising on the E11 or E311. The HTRAC-style all-wheel-drive system actively manages power distribution, which translates to superior grip on wet tarmac and gravel paths. With a ground clearance of approximately 172 mm, it easily handles high speed bumps and uneven terrain during weekend family outings.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the family, featuring high-quality materials that resist wear and a powerful AC system known for its ability to reach peak cooling quickly in 45°C+ temperatures. Rear passengers enjoy dedicated air vents and generous legroom, ensuring comfort during long cross-border drives. The 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard in this trim, providing seamless navigation and entertainment.

Safety

Standard safety features for this 2019 trim include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, providing an active layer of protection. For the GCC driver, the Blind-Spot Collision Warning is a vital tool for highway lane changes, while the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning simplifies parking in crowded shopping malls. Multiple airbags and electronic stability control are standard, ensuring a 5-star level of protection for all five occupants.

The bottom line

Perfect for a growing family or a professional seeking a reliable daily driver, this AWD Tucson offers the ideal balance of engine power and local suitability. It is a turn-key opportunity to own a mid-trim SUV with manageable mileage and a high-demand regional specification.
