7 tips when buying a new car in UAE

Porsche GT3 RS - Weissach

A very special Porsche 911 GT3 RS with the desirable and rarer Weissach package. For the 991.2 generation RS, the Weissach package featured a titanium roll cage, carbon fibre bonnet, carbon fibre roof and carbon fibre anti roll bars.

An astonishing weapon of car. The PDK gearbox provides the most seamless gearshifts in the industry for the period, the flat 6 engine revs comfortably to a sonorous 9,000 rpm; complimented by the tasteful Akrapovic exhaust system.

I recently enjoyed this 991.2 GT3 RS Weissach for a day. This was my third time
driving this model, but previous experiences have been short, purposeful drives for an hour
or less. However, driving the car long distance, to the UAE’s finest mountain pass and back
with other competent vehicles and drivers changed things. How, I ask you, can a
manufacturer produce a scalpel-like driving weapon that manages to communicate all
changes in the road surface, tyre grip, power delivery and driving mechanics directly to the
pilot despite there being no connection between his/her fingertips and the actual dynamical
goings-on of the vehicle?

9,000 rpm, 500+ horsepower, a non adjustable carbon fibre seat and racing car-like
suspension; yet I did not feel tired or uncomfortable despite being behind the wheel for
over four hours. Up the mountain road the gearshifts from the “Porsche
Doppelkupplungsgetriebe” (PDK gearbox to you and I) were utterly seamless. So smooth
that it is as if no gears are actually changing, but in fact just a simple audible change in
frequency with next to zero affect towards the shift feel. Changing gear sounded more like
pressing various keys on 4.0 litre mechanical piano. Seamless.

RS: RennSport, or “Racing Sport”. A very unromantic name but let us remember that Porsche understand racing very well; be it endurance racing -having won 19 times overall with 108 class wins- or even cross-country rally stages. “RS” is a moniker reserved only for
the true race-bred 911s. The first of which was the 1973 2.7 RS. This is easily the greatest
911 I have ever experienced. A vehicle so perfect to pilot that it leaves the driver wanting
for absolutely nothing.
Porsche then took an 18-year break and did not reassign the RS
badge until the 964 RS from the early 90s. And yet again, they created a masterpiece. Closer
to a Ferrari F40 experience than they had ever achieved in my opinion. And fast forward to
the present day (or 2017 in the case of the aforementioned 991.2 RS) and this has not
changed.
Porsche is an engineering company that happens to build cars. What today may seem “too”
efficient, borderline character-less and overly engineered will, with time, be appreciated as
a feat of automotive nirvana tomorrow.
