Summary

This 2020 Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS 600 offers a rare entry point into the pinnacle of SUV luxury, blending a hand-finished interior with a potent V8 powertrain. The black exterior is the most sought-after color for high-end luxury vehicles in the GCC, ensuring it holds its presence and resale value better than lighter alternatives. With 78,000 km, the mileage is well within the expected range for a 2020 executive SUV in the region, where long-distance highway commutes between emirates are common. While this is an American spec vehicle, it provides the same world-class Maybach features at a more accessible price point than GCC-spec equivalents. For a buyer in the Gulf, this represents an opportunity to own a chauffeur-grade flagship that bridges the gap between a standard SUV and a private lounge.

This Car vs Other 2020 GLS 600s

At 78,000 km, this vehicle has been driven approximately 19,500 km per year, which is below the average GCC annual usage of 25,000 km for luxury cruisers. The black-on-black configuration is a high-demand combination in the UAE market, consistently outperforming other shades in terms of buyer interest and resale speed. As an American spec model, it offers a significant upfront price advantage compared to local market versions while retaining the identical M177 V8 engine and AIRMATIC chassis.

MAYBACH vs Lower Trims

The Maybach trim transforms the GLS from a family vehicle into a luxury flagship, adding a dedicated 'Maybach' drive mode for unmatched rear-seat comfort. It features a unique pinstripe grille, power-extending running boards, and a massive increase in rear legroom thanks to a two-row configuration that sets the seats 120mm further back than a standard GLS. Exclusive interior touches include Nappa leather headlining, a refrigerated compartment, and specialized acoustic glazing that significantly reduces desert wind noise.

GLS 600 vs Segment Rivals

The GLS 600 competes directly with the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, leading the segment in digital integration with its dual 12.3-inch MBUX displays and advanced voice control. Its 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system and E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL offer superior adaptive handling on varying road surfaces compared to more traditional luxury SUVs. Additionally, the 90-litre fuel tank provides the necessary range for cross-border drives across the GCC, such as the journey from Dubai to Riyadh.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption is rated at approximately 12.0 L/100km combined, though real-world figures in stop-start city traffic like Downtown Dubai will be higher due to the V8 displacement. Service intervals are typically every 15,000 km or 12 months at authorized Mercedes-Benz centers, which are extensively available throughout the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While American spec cars depreciate slightly faster than GCC spec, the Maybach nameplate maintains a higher value floor than standard GLS models due to its flagship status and exclusivity.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 557 hp, enabling this massive SUV to reach a top speed of 250 km/h with ease. It features the EQ Boost mild-hybrid system, providing an additional 250 Nm of electric torque for seamless acceleration during highway overtaking. The AIRMATIC air suspension includes a dedicated 'Curve' function that leans the car into corners, ensuring flat and stable handling even on winding mountain roads in Jebel Jais.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a 5-seat masterpiece featuring multicontour seats with massage, heating, and ventilation functions for all passengers—essential for the intense GCC summer. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated 11.6-inch entertainment screens and a 7.4-inch MBUX tablet to control the four-zone climate system and ambient lighting. The sound-insulated glass and specialized rubber bearings for the air conditioning fans ensure the interior remains a silent sanctuary regardless of outside temperatures or traffic noise.

Safety

This Maybach comes equipped with a comprehensive ADAS suite including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Steering Assist, and Evasive Steering Assist for safe highway cruising. The 360-degree camera system is standard, making the vehicle's large footprint easy to manage in tight parking areas. Additional safety layers like Pre-Safe Impulse Side can detect an imminent side impact and move the occupant toward the center of the vehicle for maximum protection.

The bottom line

This Maybach GLS 600 is the ideal choice for a buyer seeking the ultimate in prestige and comfort without the GCC-spec premium. It is a perfectly timed opportunity to secure a 557-hp luxury flagship that is ready for both the daily executive commute and long-range regional travel.
