Summary

This 2020 Nissan Patrol SE Platinum City strikes a perfect balance for the GCC buyer, offering the top-tier luxury features of the V8 models with the more manageable running costs of the 4.0L V6. Its black exterior is widely considered one of the strongest resale colors in the UAE and Saudi markets, ensuring long-term value retention. With 109,900 km over 6 years, the mileage is exactly in line with the expected highway-heavy use typical of the region. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it is purpose-built to handle extreme summer heat while providing the prestigious road presence the Patrol is famous for. For the family that prioritizes cabin refinement and brand reliability without needing the brute towing force of the V8, this is an exceptionally logical choice.

This Car vs Other 2020 Patrols

At 6 years old, this Patrol's mileage sits right at the GCC average of roughly 18,000 km per year, indicating it has been used as intended for inter-emirate travel. The black-on-tan color combination is a high-demand spec in the local used market, often commanding a quicker sale and better price floor than less traditional shades. Being a GCC-spec model, it carries the cooling and filtration systems necessary for the region, which is a major trust signal for local buyers compared to grey-market imports.

SE PLATINUM CITY vs Lower Trims

The Platinum City trim transforms the Patrol from a rugged workhorse into a luxury cruiser, adding 20-inch machine-cut alloy wheels and a 360-degree Around View Monitor that makes parking this large SUV effortless. Inside, you move from basic upholstery to premium quilted leather, ventilated front seats, and a built-in refrigerator in the center console. It also includes the Rear Seat Entertainment system with dual screens, a feature highly valued by GCC families for long desert highway drives.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

While the Toyota Land Cruiser GXR is its primary rival, the Patrol SE Platinum City leads in cabin technology and material quality, offering a more modern dual-screen layout and softer interior touchpoints. Its massive 140-litre fuel tank provides a significant range advantage over the Ford Expedition or GMC Yukon, which is critical for long-distance trips between major GCC cities. The Patrol's heritage in the region also ensures that it retains its value far more consistently than its American competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 4.0L V6 typically averages around 15L/100km, offering a slight efficiency edge over the V8 in stop-start city traffic in Dubai or Riyadh. Service intervals are standard at 10,000 km, and Nissan’s massive authorized network across the UAE, KSA, and Oman makes maintenance convenient and affordable. The Patrol remains one of the slowest-depreciating vehicles in the GCC, typically losing only 10-15% of its value annually after the initial first-year drop.

Performance & Capability

The 275 hp V6 engine provides a smooth and unhurried driving experience, optimized for highway cruising at 120 km/h where it remains unstressed at low RPMs. While it is more road-biased in this trim, it retains the legendary 'All-Mode 4x4' system with a low-range transfer case and a locking rear differential for weekend desert excursions. It offers a 273mm ground clearance and a 700mm wading depth, ensuring it can handle localized flooding or sandy tracks with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

The 8-seat configuration is genuinely usable, with a third row that can accommodate adults for shorter trips across town. The GCC-specific climate control system is famously powerful, featuring dedicated vents for all three rows and independent rear cooling to combat 45°C+ summer peaks. The cabin is well-insulated from road and wind noise, creating a quiet sanctuary for long-distance family travel.

Safety

Standard safety tech on the Platinum City includes the Intelligent Around View Monitor with 360-degree coverage, which is essential for managing the vehicle's footprint in tight urban spaces. It features a full suite of airbags, including side and curtain coverage for all rows, along with Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These systems provide crucial peace of mind during fast-paced highway driving common on the E11 and other major regional arteries.

The bottom line

This is the ideal SUV for a GCC family that wants the 'King of the Desert' prestige and luxury without the V8 fuel bill, presented in a high-resale color and a verified GCC specification.
