Summary

This 5-year-old Nissan Patrol Safari represents a unique opportunity to own a modern iteration of a desert legend. Built with a robust body-on-frame chassis and the revered 4.8L inline-six engine, it provides mechanical purity and durability that newer turbocharged rivals often lack. With mileage that reflects average annual use for a GCC-based 4x4, it remains a highly reliable choice for both family duty and weekend exploration. Black is a sophisticated and high-demand resale color in the regional market, ensuring strong liquidity when it comes time to upgrade. For a buyer in the UAE, this is a cultural icon known for handling extreme heat and off-road terrain with total confidence.

This Car vs Other 2021 Patrols

At 105,126 km, this Patrol Safari shows average mileage for its 5 years of age in the GCC, where 20,000 to 25,000 km per year is the standard for highway-heavy commuters. While many 2021 units available are the road-biased Y62 generation, this Y61-based Safari trim is preferred by enthusiasts for its simpler, more rugged engineering. The black exterior is a stable resale choice in the local market, holding value better than niche or non-standard colors.

SAFARI vs Lower Trims

The Safari trim is a significant step up from the base XE or GL models, featuring the larger 4.8L VTC engine and more robust 4WD hardware. It adds essential GCC comfort features such as rear cooling vents and a more premium cabin finish compared to the work-oriented basic trims. Buyers at this level also benefit from the distinctive Safari-specific exterior aesthetics and upgraded wheel options that command a premium in the used market.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

The Patrol Safari is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series and the Jeep Wrangler. While the Jeep offers open-top freedom, the Patrol leads with significantly more interior volume and a more stable wheelbase for high-speed desert crossings. Its primary advantage over the Land Cruiser 76 is a larger standard fuel tank and a more refined cabin that transitions better between city driving and dunes.

Running Costs & Resale

Expected fuel consumption averages 17.2 L/100km, which reflects the heavy-duty nature of the 4.8L VTC engine during typical GCC stop-start traffic and highway cruising. Maintenance is exceptionally convenient, with one of the most extensive authorized service networks across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman. The Patrol Safari holds its value remarkably well, typically retaining 60-70% of its value after three years, outperforming most American and European SUVs in the same price bracket.

Performance & Capability

The 4.8L inline-six engine is famously over-engineered, producing a linear power delivery that is ideal for navigating soft sand. With 215 mm of standard ground clearance and generous approach angles, it is built to clear obstacles that would stop road-biased crossovers. The selectable 4WD system with low-range and a locking rear differential makes it a genuine tool for crossing the Liwa dunes or tackling mountain tracks in the northern emirates.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, this 7-seater layout offers versatility for large families, with the third-row seats folding to the side to maximize cargo space. The air conditioning system is legendary in the GCC for its ability to maintain a cold cabin even in 45°C summer heat, supported by dedicated rear vents for passengers. The black exterior is paired with a cabin designed for durability, featuring easy-to-clean materials suited for an active lifestyle.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the Safari trim includes front airbags, an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), and Traction Control for improved stability on loose surfaces. The robust ladder-frame construction provides a solid safety cell, while cruise control assists with fatigue management on long desert highway drives. Rear parking sensors and a camera are also standard, assisting with visibility in this large-displacement SUV.

The bottom line

Perfect for the enthusiast who wants a bulletproof desert companion that doubles as a reliable family hauler, this GCC-spec Safari is a smart buy for long-term value retention.
