Summary

This 2021 GAC GS3 GE offers a compelling entry into the sub-compact SUV market, balancing modern tech with a punchy 1.3L turbocharged engine. With 83,000 km, it sits right at the expected mileage for a three-year-old GCC-based commuter, having likely spent its time on well-maintained UAE highways. The White exterior is a strategic choice for the region, offering the best heat reflection during summer months and securing the strongest resale interest. In a segment often defined by basic features, this GE trim provides the creature comforts GCC buyers prioritize, such as rear AC vents and leatherette upholstery. It represents a practical, high-value alternative to established rivals for those seeking a newer model year without the premium price tag.

This Car vs Other 2021 GS3s

At 83,000 km, this GS3 aligns with the GCC average of roughly 25,000 km per year, indicating consistent use rather than excessive long-distance hauling. The White paint is the most sought-after color in the local used market, ensuring faster liquidity and better value retention than darker shades. Choosing the GE trim over the base GS also ensures you have the more powerful 1.3T engine, which is far better suited for overtaking on the E11 than the standard 1.5L naturally aspirated unit.

GE vs Lower Trims

The GE trim is a significant upgrade over the base GS, most notably swapping the 1.5L engine for the more responsive 1.3L turbo producing 202 Nm of torque. Inside, the GE adds essential GCC comfort features including automatic climate control and dedicated second-row AC vents to handle peak summer heat. You also benefit from a more premium cabin environment with leatherette seats and an 8-inch HD touchscreen, features that are often absent or downgraded in entry-level variants.

GS3 vs Segment Rivals

The GS3 competes directly with the MG ZS and Nissan Kicks, standing out by offering a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission that many local drivers find smoother than the CVTs found in rivals. Its turbocharged engine provides better low-end pull for city traffic compared to the naturally aspirated engines in the entry-level Kicks. Furthermore, the GAC offers a more generous list of standard tech features at this price point, providing better value for money than long-standing Japanese competitors.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency is excellent, with a combined figure of approximately 6.9 L/100km, making it one of the more economical crossovers for daily Dubai or Riyadh commutes. GAC has established a strong presence in the UAE and Saudi Arabia with authorized service centers in all major cities, ensuring parts and maintenance are readily available. While Chinese brands typically see higher initial depreciation than Japanese marques, the 2021 GS3 has already moved past its steepest value drop, offering a stable entry point for the second owner.

Performance & Capability

The 1.3L turbocharged engine is the highlight here, delivering 135 hp and a healthy 202 Nm of torque which makes highway merging effortless. While designed primarily as a front-wheel-drive urban crossover, its elevated ground clearance is perfect for navigating high speed bumps and gravel parking areas common in new developments. The 6-speed automatic transmission is tuned for comfort, providing predictable shifts that are well-suited for the stop-start traffic of Sheikh Zayed Road.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is surprisingly spacious for a sub-compact, comfortably seating five with 60:40 split-folding rear seats to expand the 341-litre boot. The GE trim includes an automatic air conditioning system with a negative ion filter, specifically designed to maintain air quality and cooling efficiency in high-temperature environments. Standard tech includes a 6-speaker audio system, cruise control for long desert drives, and an 8-inch display that integrates seamlessly with your mobile devices.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the GE trim includes front and side airbags, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system which is vital for safe highway travel in the GCC. It also features hill-start hold and hill descent control, providing extra confidence when navigating steep parking ramps or uneven terrain. Rear parking sensors and a high-definition camera come standard, making tight city parking much simpler.

The bottom line

Perfect for young professionals or small families, this GAC GS3 GE offers the ideal mix of turbocharged performance and high-spec features at a price point that makes it a smart, modern alternative to older high-mileage rivals.
