Land Rover Range Rover Velar S

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 7.5 seconds
• 217 km/h top speed
• 568 litres boot space

Summary

This 2021 Range Rover Velar S offers a compelling balance of modern aesthetics and efficient performance, powered by the responsive 250 hp P250 engine. With just 39,000 km, this vehicle represents significantly lower-than-average usage for a three-year-old SUV in the GCC, where 25,000 km per year is common. The black exterior is a high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring both a timeless look and strong future resale potential. As the 'S' trim, it provides the essential Land Rover luxury experience, including a panoramic roof and premium leather, without the higher maintenance complexity of air suspension found in larger models. For a buyer in the UAE or wider GCC, this is a refined daily driver that handles city traffic and highway commutes between emirates with equal poise.

This Car vs Other 2021 Range Rover Velars

With only 39,000 km on the odometer, this Velar has covered roughly half the distance of a typical GCC-based vehicle of the same age. While many 2021 models in the region have exceeded 70,000 km due to frequent inter-city travel, this example remains in a lower mileage bracket that is highly sought after by local buyers. The black-on-black color combination further enhances its appeal, as dark shades consistently command faster turnaround times in the pre-owned luxury market.

S vs Lower Trims

The S trim serves as a significant upgrade over the base Velar, introducing the 11-speaker Meridian™ premium audio system and 14-way power-adjustable heated front seats with driver memory. It also features a 360-degree camera system, which is invaluable for navigating tight parking spots in Dubai or Riyadh. Unlike higher HSE trims, the S often utilizes coil spring suspension, which many GCC owners prefer for long-term reliability and simpler maintenance in high-temperature environments.

Range Rover Velar vs Segment Rivals

The Velar leads rivals like the Porsche Macan and BMW X4 in cargo practicality, offering a generous 568-litre boot that easily accommodates family gear or shopping. Its design-forward cabin with dual touchscreens provides a more minimalist and tech-focused environment than the Lexus NX. Additionally, the Velar’s standard All-Wheel Drive system and Terrain Response software give it a distinct edge in stability when encountering sand-blown highway sections or light gravel paths during weekend outings.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the P250 powertrain typically averages around 9.4 L/100km, offering a sensible balance for daily commuting in GCC stop-start traffic. Land Rover has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring consistent maintenance support. While European luxury SUVs naturally depreciate faster than Japanese alternatives, the Velar maintains a strong following in the UAE, with well-maintained, low-mileage black examples holding their value better than niche colors or high-mileage units.

Performance & Capability

The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 250 hp and 365 Nm of torque, enabling a smooth 0–100 km/h sprint in 7.5 seconds. This performance is ideal for the fast-paced highway mergers common on the E11 or E311. With a top speed of 217 km/h and standard All-Wheel Drive, the Velar feels planted and secure during high-speed cruising. Its 2,400 kg braked towing capacity also makes it capable of hauling jet skis or light trailers for coastal weekend trips.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of minimalist luxury, featuring the Pivi Pro infotainment system and premium leather upholstery. The standard panoramic glass roof creates an airy feel, while the dual-zone climate control is engineered to combat extreme GCC summer heat effectively. Acoustic glass helps isolate the cabin from road noise, providing a quiet environment for long drives between cities. The 14-way adjustable seats ensure driver comfort even during extended periods in heavy traffic.

Safety

This Velar comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety tech, including emergency braking, lane keep assist, and a 3D surround camera system. The blind-spot intervention is particularly useful on multi-lane GCC highways where fast-moving traffic is constant. Built on a stiff aluminum-intensive architecture, the Velar achieved a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, ensuring high levels of protection for all five occupants.

The bottom line

For the executive or small family seeking a design icon with low mileage and high local resale appeal, this black Range Rover Velar S is a standout choice in the current GCC market.
