Bentley Bentayga SPEED

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in under 4 seconds
• Hand-built engine
• Top-tier audio system standard

Summary

This specific 2022 speed-focused SUV offers a rare combination of lower-than-average mileage for its age and the highly sought-after GCC specification, making it a standout choice for the regional pre-owned market. While most performance SUVs in this category are driven daily and rack up significant highway kilometers between cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi, this example has been kept well below the regional average of 25,000 kilometers per year. The grey exterior is a sophisticated choice that maintains strong resale demand in the UAE, avoiding the faster depreciation often seen with more polarizing colors. As the peak expression of its model line, it provides a level of mechanical exclusivity that is becoming increasingly rare as the industry shifts toward smaller engines. For a buyer in the Gulf, the combination of a massive power reserve for effortless desert highway cruising and the peace of mind offered by local regional specs makes this one of the most compelling luxury opportunities available right now. This is a vehicle designed for the driver who wants the absolute maximum performance available in the segment without sacrificing the ability to tackle the extreme summer heat in total comfort.

This Car vs Other 2022 Bentaygas

When comparing this vehicle to other units from the same production year, the first significant advantage is the mileage. In the GCC, where 20,000 to 25,000 kilometers per year is the standard for a primary vehicle, this car sits comfortably below that threshold at just over 46,000 kilometers after two years, suggesting it was likely part of a multi-car collection rather than a sole daily driver. The grey paintwork is a strategic asset in the local market; it hides fine desert dust better than black and holds its value significantly better than more flamboyant shades when it comes time to trade in. Being a genuine GCC-spec vehicle is the most critical differentiator, ensuring that the cooling systems, radiator, and air conditioning are all factory-optimized for 50-degree Celsius summers. Many international imports found in the UAE lack this regional optimization or the full service history from authorized local distributors. This car represents a 'turn-key' high-performance investment that is mechanically prepared for the unique environmental stresses of the Arabian Peninsula.

SPEED vs Lower Trims

Moving up to this specific trim replaces the standard V8 with a hand-assembled 12-cylinder engine that completely changes the driving character of the vehicle. Beyond the massive power increase, this trim includes the Bentley Dynamic Ride system as standard, which uses an electronic active roll control system to keep the car perfectly flat during high-speed cornering—a feature that is optional or unavailable on lower variants. Inside, the cabin receives unique Alcantara detailing and specific 'Speed' embroidery that signals its top-tier status to any passenger. The exterior styling is also more aggressive, featuring dark-tinted lamps, body-colored side skirts, and unique 22-inch wheels that give it a presence the base models lack. For the GCC buyer, the standard inclusion of the Mulliner Driving Specification—which usually commands a massive premium on lower trims—provides the iconic diamond-in-diamond quilting that defines ultra-luxury. You also benefit from upgraded ceramic brakes that offer much higher heat resistance, which is vital when slowing down a heavy vehicle from highway speeds in the middle of a desert summer.

Bentayga vs Segment Rivals

This vehicle competes in an elite tier against rivals like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the Lamborghini Urus, and the Aston Martin DBX707. While the Urus focuses on raw, sharp aggression, this model offers a more refined 'Grand Touring' approach that is better suited for long-distance drives across the GCC, such as the trek from Riyadh to Dubai. Compared to the Cullinan, it offers a significantly more engaging driver-centric experience with a higher top speed and more athletic handling. Its unique selling point remains the 6.0-liter W12 engine, a powertrain configuration that most rivals have moved away from in favor of smaller, turbocharged V8s. This engine provides a level of effortless torque that is unmatched for smooth highway overtaking. Additionally, the cabin insulation is widely regarded as superior to the Aston Martin, providing a quieter sanctuary from the wind noise typically associated with high-speed travel on open desert roads.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning a 12-cylinder luxury SUV in the GCC comes with specific financial considerations, but this model holds its value better than almost any other European luxury SUV in its class. In the UAE market, you can expect an annual depreciation rate of approximately 12-15%, which is remarkably stable for a high-end performance vehicle. Real-world fuel economy reflects its performance focus, averaging around 14.5 liters per 100km on the highway, though city driving in heavy traffic will see that figure rise significantly. Service intervals are typically every 16,000 kilometers or once per year, and authorized service centers are readily available in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and Kuwait City. Parts availability is excellent across the region, with specialized technicians available in every major GCC hub. Because this is a GCC-spec 2022 model, it often retains a higher percentage of its original MSRP compared to American or European imports, which are often excluded from local service contracts and face steeper depreciation.

Performance & Capability

At the heart of this vehicle is a 6.0-liter W12 engine producing a massive 626 horsepower, enabling a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 3.9 seconds. This level of performance is particularly impressive on the UAE's high-speed motorways, where the car reaches a top speed of 306 km/h, making it one of the fastest production SUVs in the world. The four-wheel-drive system is sophisticated enough to handle more than just tarmac; while rarely used for serious dune bashing, it provides incredible stability on sand-swept desert roads and gravel tracks leading to mountain retreats. There are four distinct drive modes, including a dedicated 'Bentley' mode that provides the perfect balance between comfort and performance. The air suspension system can be raised for extra ground clearance when navigating uneven terrain or lowered for better aerodynamics at high speeds. This performance isn't just about speed; it's about the effortless way the car maintains pace, making a four-hour cross-border drive feel entirely fatigue-free.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is a 5-seat sanctuary designed to shield occupants from the harsh outside environment of the Gulf. The air conditioning system is exceptionally powerful, capable of cooling the large cabin in minutes even after the car has been parked in direct sunlight. Both front and rear seats feature ventilation and massage functions, which are essential for staying comfortable during the long, humid summer months. The Naim for Bentley audio system is standard on this trim, providing 1,780 watts of power through 20 speakers, creating a concert-hall experience that is widely considered the best in the automotive world. Double-glazed acoustic glass significantly reduces exterior noise, allowing for quiet conversations even at triple-digit highway speeds. The use of premium leathers and real wood veneers throughout the cabin ensures that every touchpoint feels expensive and durable, standing up well to the intense UV light common in the region.

Safety

Safety in this high-performance SUV is handled by a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems that are particularly helpful on the multi-lane highways of Dubai and Riyadh. Standard features include Night Vision, which uses infrared cameras to detect pedestrians or camels on unlit desert roads long before they are visible to the naked eye. The Adaptive Cruise Control system includes a stop-and-go function that makes navigating heavy traffic in business districts much less stressful. Blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree top-view camera are essential for maneuvering such a large vehicle in tight mall parking structures. Additionally, the car features a Head-Up Display that keeps vital navigation and speed information directly in the driver's line of sight, ensuring focus remains on the road. The robust 48V active anti-roll system also acts as a safety feature, keeping the vehicle stable during sudden emergency lane changes at high speeds.

The bottom line

For the discerning GCC buyer, this 2022 Speed trim represents the pinnacle of the 12-cylinder SUV era, offering lower mileage and higher regional desirability than almost anything else on the market today. It is the perfect choice for someone who demands supercar performance but requires the space and cooling capability of a world-class luxury SUV.
