Summary

This 2022 Ford Expedition XLT offers a compelling case for GCC families needing significant towing power and eight-passenger capacity without the steep depreciation of higher trims. At 4 years old with just 25,981 km, it has been driven roughly a quarter of the typical GCC annual average, representing a rare low-mileage opportunity. The Grey exterior is a neutral, high-demand choice in the local market, ensuring it maintains its appeal at resale. While rivals often rely on aged V8s, this 3.5L EcoBoost engine provides superior torque for highway overtaking while remaining surprisingly manageable in city traffic. It is the ideal choice for an owner who prioritizes mechanical longevity and a modern cabin for long-distance emirate-to-emirate family trips.

This Car vs Other 2022 Expeditions

While many 4-year-old SUVs in the GCC have surpassed the 80,000 km mark due to frequent long-distance highway use, this example’s 25,981 km reading is exceptionally low. This limited usage significantly preserves the engine and transmission life, making it a standout in a market where these vehicles are usually high-mileage workhorses. The Grey paint is a practical and popular choice for the region, offering better heat reflection than darker tones and stronger resale stability than niche colors.

XLT vs Lower Trims

The XLT trim provides critical upgrades over the base XL that are essential for the GCC climate, most notably the tri-zone automatic climate control which ensures the third-row passengers stay cool in summer heat. It also adds a standard power-adjustable driver's seat and a power-folding third row, features typically reserved for luxury models. Unlike the base trim, the XLT also includes additional USB ports throughout the cabin to keep every passenger's device charged on long family road trips.

Expedition vs Segment Rivals

The Expedition leads rivals like the Nissan Armada and Toyota Sequoia in modern cabin technology, featuring a standard 12-inch touchscreen that feels generations ahead of the Nissan's older interface. Its twin-turbocharged V6 delivers torque much earlier in the rev range than the naturally aspirated V8s in competitors, making it feel more responsive during highway merges. Furthermore, the Expedition offers more genuine legroom in the third row, making it more suitable for carrying eight adults comfortably.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.5L EcoBoost powertrain is designed for GCC highway cruising, with real-world consumption typically averaging around 11 L/100km on open roads, though city driving in heavy Dubai or Riyadh traffic will see this increase. Ford has a well-established authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, ensuring parts are readily available and affordable. In the GCC used market, the Expedition XLT holds its value well, benefiting from a slower depreciation rate than more expensive luxury-oriented trims.

Performance & Capability

With a confirmed braked towing capacity of 4,173 kg, this Expedition is more than capable of hauling large boats or trailers across soft sand and tarmac alike. The 300 hp output is supported by a massive 470 lb-ft of torque, which provides effortless pulling power even when the vehicle is fully loaded with eight passengers. The selectable Four Wheel Drive system and 10-speed automatic transmission ensure smooth power delivery, whether you're navigating a weekend desert campsite or a fast-moving coastal highway.

Comfort & Cabin

Interior comfort in this GCC-spec model is centered around its high-capacity cooling system, designed specifically to handle 45°C+ temperatures with dedicated vents for all three rows. The eight-seat configuration is highly versatile, featuring a power-reclining third row that allows passengers to relax during cross-border drives. Acoustic glass is standard on this trim, providing a quiet sanctuary from road noise and desert winds, while the SYNC 4 system offers seamless wireless connectivity for the whole family.

Safety

Safety is managed by the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite, which includes essential aids for the GCC’s multi-lane highways such as Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert and Lane-Keeping Assist. In a region where sudden stops on high-speed roads can occur, the Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking provides a vital extra layer of protection. This trim also features a comprehensive array of airbags and a reinforced safety cage, earning high marks for occupant protection in its segment.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a buyer seeking a nearly-new full-size SUV with remarkably low mileage that undercuts the price of higher trims while retaining the same robust capability. It is the perfect fit for a GCC family that needs the space of an eight-seater and the towing power of a truck with the modern tech of a 2022 model.
