Summary

This 2022 Ford Expedition Platinum represents the peak of American full-size luxury, offering a massive 400 hp from its refined 3.5L EcoBoost engine. As a Platinum trim, it bridges the gap between a family workhorse and an executive suite, featuring advanced tech like the 15.5-inch touchscreen that was a major upgrade for this model year. Its black exterior is a highly sought-after choice in the GCC, ensuring strong resale demand compared to less conventional colors. With its superior cooling capacity and extensive dealer network across the UAE, it is perfectly engineered for cross-country highway cruises and the extreme summer heat. For a buyer needing genuine eight-seat capacity without sacrificing premium cabin materials, this Platinum remains a standout choice.

This Car vs Other 2022 Expeditions

With 75,905 km, this vehicle sits at an average mileage for a GCC-based full-size SUV of this age, where 25,000 km per year is common due to frequent inter-emirate travel. Its black paint is a premium resale color in the regional market, holding value significantly better than bolder shades. This particular car benefits from being the refreshed 2022 model, which introduced a vastly superior interior design and infotainment suite over the 2021 versions.

PLATINUM vs Lower Trims

The Platinum trim elevates the Expedition with features the Limited and XLT lack, most notably the Continuously Controlled Damping (CCD) suspension for a smoother ride over uneven terrain. Inside, it gains the massive 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen and the 22-speaker B&O Unleashed audio system, a significant jump from the 12-speaker setup in the Limited. GCC buyers will also appreciate the multicontour seats with Active Motion massage, a luxury touch that makes long desert highway drives much more comfortable.

Expedition vs Segment Rivals

The Expedition leads rivals like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Nissan Armada in towing performance, offering a massive 4,173 kg capacity when properly equipped. Its twin-turbo V6 provides better low-end torque for overtaking on fast-moving UAE highways than the naturally aspirated V8s found in many competitors. Furthermore, its third row is widely regarded as one of the most adult-friendly in the segment, offering more legroom than the Tahoe.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption typically averages around 12.9 to 14 L/100km, which is competitive for a vehicle of this size, especially during steady-speed highway driving between cities. Ford has an extensive authorized service network across the GCC, including major centers in every Emirate and across Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts are always accessible. The Platinum trim traditionally holds a strong 70% value retention after three years in the GCC market, making it a stable long-term investment.

Performance & Capability

The 3.5L EcoBoost V6 delivers 400 hp and 650 Nm of torque, providing effortless acceleration and a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 7 seconds. This All-Wheel Drive system features selectable terrain modes, allowing for confident handling on sand or gravel during weekend desert excursions. Its 10-speed automatic transmission is specifically tuned to keep the engine in its power band for easy overtaking at highway speeds, even when fully loaded with eight passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of high-end leather and advanced tech, featuring ventilated front seats that are essential for the GCC's 45-degree summer days. A dedicated rear climate zone with roof-mounted vents ensures that passengers in all three rows stay cool, even in direct sunlight. The inclusion of a panoramic Vista Roof and acoustic-laminated side glass provides a quiet, airy environment that isolates passengers from road and wind noise.

Safety

This Platinum trim comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360, featuring a 360-degree camera system that is vital for maneuvering such a large footprint in tight city parking. It also includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring with trailer coverage. These systems provide an extra layer of security on high-speed multi-lane highways where fast-moving traffic and long distances require high driver alertness.

The bottom line

For the large family or executive who demands maximum space without compromising on tech, this GCC-spec Platinum offers the perfect balance of luxury, towing power, and regional reliability.
