Summary

This 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee OVERLAND represents a sophisticated balance of rugged capability and premium luxury that is perfectly suited for the GCC lifestyle. As the first year of the redesigned WL generation, it offers a significantly modernized interior and tech suite compared to its predecessors, making it a highly desirable option on the used market. The OVERLAND trim is particularly sought after in this region because it includes high-end features like air suspension and ventilated seats that are essential for local climate comfort. With its black exterior, it maintains a strong resale profile as one of the most popular and professional colors for SUVs in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. This specific model stands out by offering the legendary Jeep 4x4 capability without the utilitarian feel of lower trims, providing a smooth highway experience for inter-emirate travel. For a GCC buyer, the most important consideration is the blend of a proven 3.6L Pentastar engine with a cabin that rivals European luxury brands, all while benefiting from a robust regional service network.

This Car vs Other 2022 Grand Cherokees

When looking at the 2022 model year in the GCC, this vehicle’s mileage of 105,212 km is slightly above the typical annual average of 25,000 km, yet it reflects the reality of long-distance highway commuting common between Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the Northern Emirates. Because these kilometers are largely highway-based, the mechanical wear is often less significant than stop-start city driving would suggest for a vehicle of this age. The black exterior is a major advantage here, as it is one of the top three colors for resale value in the local market, ensuring the car remains attractive to future buyers. Unlike many 2022 models that may be imported North American specs with hidden histories, this is a genuine GCC spec vehicle, providing peace of mind regarding its cooling system and history. Choosing a 2022 model also means you are getting the latest body style, which will stay current and hold its value much longer than the previous generation. This particular example has been maintained to handle the local environment, making it a reliable choice despite being driven more than the average weekend cruiser.

OVERLAND vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the OVERLAND trim over the Laredo or Limited brings a transformative change in both luxury and off-road hardware. One of the most significant additions is the Quadra-Lift Air Suspension system, which allows you to raise the vehicle for desert excursions or lower it for easier entry and better aerodynamics on the E11 highway. Inside, the OVERLAND replaces standard materials with Nappa leather upholstery and genuine wood accents, creating a much more upscale environment for daily commuting. GCC buyers will especially appreciate the inclusion of ventilated front seats and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof that features high-quality sunshades to combat the intense summer heat. You also benefit from the premium McIntosh MX950 Entertainment System with 19 speakers, a feature rarely found in lower-tier trims. Additionally, this trim includes the hands-free power liftgate and power-folding third row (if equipped) or enhanced cargo management, adding a level of daily convenience that makes the OVERLAND feel like a true flagship SUV.

Grand Cherokee vs Segment Rivals

The Grand Cherokee competes in a crowded segment against the Ford Explorer and the Toyota Prado, yet it carves out a unique niche by offering more luxury than the Toyota and more off-road heritage than the Ford. Compared to the Toyota Prado, the Jeep offers a significantly more advanced infotainment system and a smoother on-road ride thanks to its unibody construction and air suspension. While the Ford Explorer is a strong highway performer, it lacks the genuine low-range transfer case found in the OVERLAND, which is essential for those who want to explore more than just gravel tracks. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 is widely regarded as one of the most reliable engines in the region, offering a better balance of power and fuel efficiency than some of the older V8 competitors. Furthermore, the interior insulation of the Jeep is often cited as superior, providing a quieter cabin during high-speed desert driving where wind noise can be a factor. For the family that wants a premium feel without sacrificing the ability to go off-road on weekends, the Jeep remains the segment leader.

Running Costs & Resale

The 3.6L V6 engine in this OVERLAND is a staple of the Jeep lineup, known for its reasonable fuel consumption of approximately 11.5L/100km in combined GCC driving conditions. In stop-start traffic in cities like Dubai or Riyadh, you can expect higher consumption, but the 87-liter fuel tank provides excellent range for long cross-country trips. Maintenance is straightforward, as parts for the Pentastar V6 are widely available across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, reducing the long-term cost of ownership compared to European rivals. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and authorized service centers are plentiful throughout the major GCC cities. Regarding resale value, the Grand Cherokee OVERLAND tends to retain about 60-65% of its value after three years in the GCC market, which is strong for the American SUV segment. The black color and GCC specification are critical factors that will help this vehicle sell faster and for a better price when you eventually decide to upgrade. Ownership costs are further mitigated by the vehicle’s popularity, ensuring that independent garages also have the tools and expertise to service it outside of the dealership network.

Performance & Capability

Performance is driven by the 293 hp V6 engine paired with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 7.5 seconds. This powertrain is perfectly suited for the GCC's fast-moving highways, providing ample torque for overtaking at cruising speeds. The OVERLAND shines with its Quadra-Trac II 4WD system, which features a two-speed transfer case and a 4-Low mode that is vital for navigating sand dunes or rocky wadis. With the air suspension, you can achieve a ground clearance of up to 277 mm, which is class-leading and allows you to clear obstacles that would stop most other crossovers. The Selec-Terrain system offers specific modes for Sand/Mud and Snow, ensuring the vehicle's traction control and torque distribution are optimized for local terrains. Towing capacity is also impressive at approximately 2,800 kg, making it easy to pull jet skis or a small trailer for weekend adventures. Whether you are navigating a rain-slicked city street or a desert trail, the mechanical capability of this vehicle provides a sense of security that few competitors can match.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin of the OVERLAND is a sanctuary designed to protect passengers from the harsh GCC environment. It features a 5-seat configuration that prioritizes maximum legroom and cargo space, making it ideal for executive use or small families. The air conditioning system in the GCC-spec Grand Cherokee is specifically tuned to handle 45°C+ temperatures, with rear vents ensuring that all passengers stay cool quickly after start-up. The Nappa leather seats are not only heated but also ventilated, providing a cooling effect that is indispensable during the long summer months. Ambient LED lighting with customizable colors allows you to set the mood for evening drives along the coast, while the cabin is exceptionally well-insulated from road and wind noise. The Uconnect 5 system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing for seamless navigation through local traffic apps. Every touchpoint, from the wood-trimmed steering wheel to the soft-touch door panels, reinforces the feeling that you are driving a premium luxury vehicle.

Safety

Safety is a hallmark of the 2022 Grand Cherokee, which comes equipped with an extensive suite of driver assistance technologies as standard on the OVERLAND trim. For the high-speed multi-lane highways of the GCC, the Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path Detection systems provide essential layers of protection against fast-approaching vehicles. Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection helps mitigate risks in busy urban environments like Downtown Dubai. Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go is a standout feature for long desert drives, automatically maintaining distance from the car ahead and reducing driver fatigue. The vehicle also includes LaneSense Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, which is particularly helpful on long, straight highways where attention can waver. With a high-strength steel chassis and a comprehensive airbag system, this vehicle earned top marks in global safety testing, making it one of the safest choices for families in the region.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Grand Cherokee OVERLAND is the perfect opportunity for a buyer who wants the latest design and luxury features at a used-market value. It is an ideal match for a professional or a small family who needs a vehicle that is as comfortable on a 500 km highway trip as it is capable on a weekend desert excursion.
