Summary

This 2022 Range Rover First Edition represents the high-water mark of the current L460 generation, combining the performance of a 530 hp BMW-sourced V8 with the exclusivity of a launch-year special. At 4 years old with 70,285 km, it has reached a sweet spot in the GCC used market where the initial steep depreciation of a high-end luxury SUV has already been absorbed. The Sunset Gold exterior is a signature launch color that retains strong appeal and resale recognition across the Emirates. This model remains the benchmark for those seeking a vehicle that transitions seamlessly from a formal arrival in Downtown Dubai to high-speed weekend cruising toward Salalah. For the GCC buyer, the First Edition trim provides a level of standard equipment that was often optional on subsequent model years.

This Car vs Other 2022 Range Rovers

At 70,285 km, this vehicle's mileage is exactly in line with the typical 18,000–20,000 km annual average for luxury SUVs in the GCC. While many examples on the market are the six-cylinder P400 SE, this P530 variant carries the more desirable 4.4L V8, which is preferred by local buyers for its effortless highway overtaking. The First Edition status specifically ensures it carries a higher level of interior craftsmanship than a standard SE or HSE from the same year.

FIRST EDITION P530 vs Lower Trims

The First Edition sits above the Autobiography, adding unique 23-inch wheels and bespoke interior finishes that were only available during the first year of production. It comes standard with the highest-tier Meridian Signature Sound System featuring headrest speakers and active noise cancellation, a feature that significantly improves cabin quietness on long desert drives. It also includes ventilated 24-way massage seats as standard, providing essential cooling and comfort during the peak GCC summer months.

Range Rover vs Segment Rivals

The Range Rover leads rivals like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS in pure off-road geometry, offering a 900 mm wading depth and superior ground clearance for occasional desert excursions. While the Bentley Bentayga competes on luxury, the Range Rover offers a more intuitive Pivi Pro infotainment system and better all-wheel steering, making it surprisingly agile in tight city parking. Its split tailgate remains a unique practical advantage for outdoor social gatherings, a staple of GCC culture.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the P530 V8 typically averages around 11.8 L/100km on the highway, though city driving in heavy traffic will see this increase. As a GCC-spec vehicle, it benefits from a wide network of authorized Al Tayer and EuroMotors service centers across the UAE and the wider region, ensuring parts availability is never an issue. This generation of Range Rover holds value significantly better than its predecessor, with the First Edition specifically seeing slower depreciation due to its limited-run status.

Performance & Capability

The 4.4L twin-turbo V8 delivers a massive 750 Nm of torque, allowing this large SUV to reach a top speed of 250 km/h with remarkable stability. The standard All-Wheel Steering reduces the turning circle significantly, making it as easy to maneuver as a compact crossover in urban environments. Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system automatically adjusts the air suspension and drivetrain for sand, gravel, or road, ensuring maximum traction during weekend trips to the dunes.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is a sanctuary of Semi-Aniline leather and fine veneers, featuring a five-seat layout that prioritizes legroom for all passengers. The four-zone climate control system is specifically engineered to handle 45°C+ temperatures, with dedicated vents and high-output cooling to ensure the cabin stays chilled even in direct sunlight. Executive Class rear seating includes power-recline functions, making it a perfect choice for those who prefer to be driven as much as they like to drive.

Safety

This trim is equipped with a comprehensive ADAS suite including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, which is invaluable for the long, straight highways between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The 3D Surround Camera system with ClearSight Ground View provides a virtual view under the hood, protecting those expensive 23-inch wheels from high curbs. Standard safety features also include high-speed Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Assist, and Driver Condition Response to ensure safety during cross-border journeys.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants the very best Version 1.0 of the new Range Rover, this V8 First Edition offers iconic looks and maximum spec without the new-car price tag.
