Summary

This Nissan Patrol is a legend in the GCC market, representing the ultimate bridge between classic ruggedness and modern capability. As a SUPER SAFARI trim, it offers a specific blend of retro styling and upgraded durability that resonates deeply with local desert enthusiasts and collectors alike. With a mileage reflecting typical highway use in the UAE, this 2022 model has already undergone its steepest initial depreciation, making it a sound financial choice for those who value long-term stability. The black-on-black aesthetic is highly sought after in Dubai and Riyadh, ensuring strong demand when the time comes to upgrade. While rivals have moved towards smaller, turbocharged engines, this vehicle retains the high-displacement naturally aspirated power required for reliable sand dune climbing and extreme heat endurance. Buying this model means joining a community that values mechanical longevity and a parts network that is unmatched across the entire Arabian Peninsula.

This Car vs Other 2022 Patrols

When comparing this listing to other 2022 models, the mileage of 114,639 km sits right within the expected range for a vehicle that frequently traverses the long highways between Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates. In the GCC, annual averages often hit 30,000 km for these workhorse SUVs, so this vehicle is actually well-positioned for its age. The SUPER SAFARI trim level is significantly more desirable than the standard Safari or basic versions, as it retains a timeless aesthetic that actually appreciates in enthusiast circles compared to more common plastic-heavy interiors. The black exterior is a premier choice for resale in this region, contrasting beautifully against the desert landscape and holding its gloss better than many lighter metallic shades when properly maintained. Because this is a GCC-spec vehicle, it comes with a cooling system specifically engineered for the 50-degree Celsius summers that regional buyers prioritize over imported equivalents. You are looking at a well-balanced example that has been driven as intended without being subjected to the extreme modification often found on younger, lower-mileage versions.

SUPER SAFARI vs Lower Trims

Stepping up to the SUPER SAFARI trim is about much more than just badging; it is about the equipment that makes GCC driving effortless and stylish. This trim adds the iconic two-tone fender flares, the trademark rear spare tire cover, and the winch-ready bumper that lower Safari trims often lack. Inside, you get a significant upgrade in material quality, featuring specialized upholstery and wood-grain accents that feel substantially more premium than the utilitarian base trims. The inclusion of a navigation system and a superior sound setup provides the modern convenience required for long drives to Liwa or across the border to Oman. Perhaps most importantly, the SUPER SAFARI often includes specific suspension tuning and differential locks that are optional on lower trims, giving you genuine off-road hardware right from the showroom floor. For a buyer in the secondary market, these additions represent thousands of dirhams in value that you simply do not get with a standard Safari, making this a much more complete package for both city commuting and weekend exploration.

Patrol vs Segment Rivals

In the GCC, the Nissan Patrol Y61 platform competes primarily with the Toyota Land Cruiser 70-series and the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. While the Toyota is a pure utilitarian tool, the Nissan leads significantly in cabin comfort and highway stability, making it a better daily driver for those who still need to attend business meetings in the city. Compared to the Wrangler, this vehicle offers a far more substantial fuel tank capacity, which is a critical advantage when planning long-range desert expeditions where petrol stations are hundreds of kilometers apart. The 4.8L inline-six engine is widely considered smoother and more predictable than the V6 options found in many American rivals, providing the low-end torque necessary for climbing soft sand. Space-wise, it offers more generous shoulder room and a wider cargo area than the Jeep, allowing for full camping setups to be stored internally. While other brands have moved toward complex electronics, the Patrol maintains a mechanical simplicity that ensures it is the last car standing in the harshest desert conditions.

Running Costs & Resale

Ownership costs for this 4.8L powerhouse are predictable and manageable thanks to the most extensive service network in the Middle East. With authorized Nissan service centers available in every major city from Kuwait to Salalah, finding expert technicians and genuine parts is never an issue. The engine is designed to run efficiently on local petrol grades, and while fuel consumption is higher in stop-start Dubai traffic—averaging around 15–18L per 100km—it becomes remarkably steady on the highway. Maintenance intervals are typically every 10,000 km, involving standard fluid changes and filter replacements that are significantly cheaper than those for European luxury SUVs. The resale value of the SUPER SAFARI is legendary in the UAE; it is one of the few vehicles that follows a shallow depreciation curve, often retaining up to 75% of its value even after three years of heavy use. This makes it one of the safest places to put your money in the automotive market, as there is always a line of eager buyers ready to purchase a clean, GCC-spec SUPER SAFARI.

Performance & Capability

Leading the performance profile is the renowned TB48DE 4.8L inline-six engine, a motor famous for its indestructible nature and linear power delivery. In a GCC context, this means you have instant access to torque when navigating steep dunes, without the lag associated with turbochargers. The automatic transmission is geared for both high-speed highway cruising and heavy-duty crawling in Four-Low mode. With one of the highest ground clearances in the segment, you won't have to worry about catching the undercarriage on rocky wadi paths or high-center dunes. The vehicle's approach and departure angles are specifically designed for the topography of the Arabian Peninsula, allowing for aggressive off-roading that would disable most modern crossovers. On the road, the heavy-duty coil suspension provides a planted feel even at the 120 km/h speed limits common on the E11. It is a dual-purpose machine that feels just as at home pulling a boat to the marina as it does carving through the sands of the Empty Quarter.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior of this SUPER SAFARI is a masterclass in functional comfort, designed to keep five passengers cool and relaxed regardless of the outside temperature. The air conditioning system is legendary in the region, capable of dropping the cabin temperature from 50 degrees to a comfortable chill in just minutes, aided by rear vents that ensure back-seat passengers remain comfortable. Despite its rugged exterior, the cabin is insulated well against wind noise, allowing for easy conversation during long-distance travels between Emirates. The seating position is high and commanding, providing excellent visibility over traffic and obstacles, which is a key safety and comfort benefit in busy city environments. The infotainment system includes the essentials for the modern driver, featuring Bluetooth connectivity and navigation to help you navigate the evolving road networks of Riyadh or Dubai. For weekend trips, the boot space is cavernous, easily accommodating large coolers, recovery gear, and luggage for a family of five without compromising rear legroom.

Safety

Safety in this SUPER SAFARI is built on a foundation of a high-strength steel body and a suite of active systems designed for varied terrains. Standard features include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), which are essential when braking on the unpredictable surfaces of sand-covered asphalt. The vehicle is equipped with dual front airbags and a robust Four Wheel Drive system that provides exceptional stability during sudden rainstorms or when traversing loose gravel in the mountains. Blind-spot visibility is aided by large, powered mirrors that are vital for the fast-paced lane changes on the Sheikh Zayed Road. The heavy-duty suspension doesn't just provide comfort; it ensures the tires maintain constant contact with the road, reducing the risk of rollover compared to poorly engineered lifted trucks. Furthermore, the presence of a factory-installed fire extinguisher and integrated recovery points speaks to Nissan's commitment to safety in the remote desert environments where this car is most at home.

The bottom line

This 2022 SUPER SAFARI is the perfect acquisition for a GCC buyer who wants a modern classic that holds its value as well as it holds the road. It offers the ultimate peace of mind through its GCC-spec cooling and unrivaled local parts availability, making it a smarter long-term investment than almost any other SUV in its price bracket.
