Summary

This 2022 Tesla Model Y Long Range is an ideal entry point into the GCC EV market, offering significant range for inter-emirate travel. At four years old with 98,000 km, it sits right on the average usage curve for the region, where highway-heavy commutes are the norm. The Pearl White finish is the strongest resale color in the UAE and Saudi markets, efficiently reflecting the desert sun to assist the climate control system. As the Long Range trim, it balances rapid acceleration with a dual-motor setup that provides superior grip on gravel-strewn coastal roads. For a GCC buyer, the immediate access to Tesla’s reliable Supercharger network across the Emirates remains the single biggest reason to choose this over its newest rivals.

This Car vs Other 2022 Model Ys

With 98,000 km on the odometer, this vehicle has averaged roughly 24,500 km per year, which aligns perfectly with the standard 20,000–25,000 km range expected of a commuter car in the GCC. While some low-mileage examples may exist, they often come at a heavy premium; this car offers a balanced mechanical history suited to the region's highway-centric driving. The white exterior is the most sought-after color for local resale, ensuring higher liquidity and value retention when you decide to upgrade.

LONG RANGE vs Lower Trims

Choosing the Long Range over the standard Rear-Wheel Drive trim adds a second motor for All-Wheel Drive, which is essential for maintaining stability during the occasional winter rain or on sandy side roads. This trim also unlocks the Premium Audio system with 13 speakers and a subwoofer, along with a significantly larger battery pack that provides roughly 80-100 km of additional range. These features, particularly the larger battery and AWD, are high-priority requirements for used buyers in the GCC and help the car hold its value better than base models.

Model Y vs Segment Rivals

The Model Y leads rivals like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volkswagen ID.4 primarily through its integrated technology and superior charging infrastructure. While rivals are catching up, the Model Y offers more cargo space with its deep 'frunk' and rear sub-trunk, which is vital for family road trips between Dubai and Salalah. Its software-first approach also means the car continues to receive performance and safety improvements via over-the-air updates, a feature many legacy competitors in this segment lack.

Running Costs & Resale

Operating costs are remarkably low in the GCC, as electricity remains more cost-effective than high-octane petrol, especially when using home charging. Tesla does not require traditional annual oil changes; instead, maintenance focuses on brake fluid health every four years and cabin filter replacements every two years, which is highly recommended given the local dust levels. Depreciation for the Model Y in the UAE is typically 12-15% annually, which is competitive for a premium EV. With a strong authorized service presence in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and a growing network in Saudi Arabia, long-term ownership is well-supported.

Performance & Capability

The Dual Motor AWD system delivers a verified 0–100 km/h time of 5.0 seconds, providing the kind of instant torque needed for confident merging onto 140 km/h highways like the E11. Its top speed of 217 km/h ensures it never feels strained during long-distance cruising. The low center of gravity, thanks to the floor-mounted battery, gives this SUV car-like handling through roundabouts. Range is officially rated at 533 km (WLTP), though real-world expectations during peak summer with high A/C usage will naturally be lower.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin features a minimalist five-seat layout with an expansive glass roof that offers a panoramic view, treated with infrared and UV protection to mitigate GCC heat. Standard equipment includes a powerful climate control system with a dedicated ‘Dog Mode’ and ‘Camp Mode,’ allowing the interior to stay cooled even when parked. The 15-inch central interface handles everything from navigation to Netflix, and the flat floor provides generous legroom for all passengers, making it a comfortable choice for cross-border family travels.

Safety

The Model Y consistently earns 5-star ratings globally due to its crumple zones and reinforced battery structure. The standard Autopilot suite is particularly useful on the UAE's long, straight desert highways, offering adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance that reduces driver fatigue. It also features 360-degree camera coverage and sophisticated collision avoidance systems that monitor fast-moving traffic in adjacent lanes, providing an extra layer of security in Busy GCC city traffic.

The bottom line

This is a statistically 'correct' buy for a GCC professional: the right color, the right trim for long distances, and mileage that proves its reliability as a daily commuter. It offers a future-proof driving experience for those looking to transition to electric without sacrificing the convenience of the UAE's most established charging network.
