Summary

This 4-year-old FJ Cruiser GXR is a standout in the UAE market, maintaining the model's legendary reputation for holding value better than almost any other vehicle in the region. Finished in a versatile Grey that is highly resilient against desert dust and heat, this GCC-spec example features the iconic 4.0L V6 that is as comfortable on the E11 highway as it is in the Liwa dunes. The mileage is very well-managed for its age, especially considering that FJ owners typically drive longer distances between emirates. With its production now ended, finding a low-mileage 2022 model is becoming a priority for enthusiasts who want a reliable daily driver that doubles as a weekend warrior. It represents a rare intersection of modern 2022 tech, like Apple CarPlay, with old-school body-on-frame durability.

This Car vs Other 2022 FJ Cruisers

With 78,144 km on the odometer, this car has been driven approximately 19,500 km per year, which is comfortably below the GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km. Most FJ Cruisers in the region are used for long-distance commutes or heavy desert off-roading, making this lower-than-average mileage a significant buying advantage for mechanical longevity. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the local climate, showing less wear and heat soak compared to darker tones, ensuring strong resale interest.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim is the sweet spot for UAE buyers, adding essential desert hardware that the base trim lacks, such as the rear differential lock and the highly coveted 159-litre dual tank system for extended range. Inside, the GXR receives a 12.3-inch infotainment upgrade with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a feature that significantly improves the daily commute through Dubai or Abu Dhabi. It also includes silver interior accents and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, providing a more premium cabin feel than the utility-focused base models.

FJ Cruiser vs Segment Rivals

The FJ Cruiser leads the Jeep Wrangler and Nissan Xterra in pure value retention, often selling for nearly its original price years later in the GCC. While the Wrangler offers a removable roof, the FJ’s legendary A/C system and cabin insulation make it far more suitable for the 45°C+ summer months in the Gulf. Its massive 159-litre fuel capacity gives it a range advantage that is unmatched by any competitor in its class, making it the preferred choice for cross-border overland trips.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption averages around 12.4 L/100km, though this can rise in heavy stop-start traffic in Riyadh or Dubai. The FJ Cruiser is famous for having one of the lowest depreciation rates in the UAE, often losing only 8-10% annually compared to 15% for rivals. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and with one of the most extensive authorized service networks in the GCC, finding parts and skilled technicians in any emirate is effortless.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0L V6 delivers 270 hp and 381 Nm of torque, providing a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 8.0 seconds—plenty of punch for merging onto fast-moving UAE highways. Off-road, the Crawl Control system acts as a low-speed cruise control for sand, allowing the driver to focus entirely on steering while the car manages traction across dunes. The short wheelbase and excellent 310 mm maximum ground clearance under the differential make it incredibly agile in technical desert terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for GCC durability with water-resistant fabric seats and easy-to-clean rubber flooring, ideal for after-beach trips or desert outings. The air conditioning is specifically tuned for the region, known for cooling the cabin in minutes even after being parked in direct sunlight. Rear-hinged 'suicide' doors provide a wide opening for passengers, and the GXR’s upgraded audio system ensures high-quality sound isolation from road noise during long highway cruises.

Safety

Standard safety features on this GXR include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Active Traction Control (A-TRC), which are vital for maintaining composure on gravel and sand. It is equipped with front and side airbags, along with rear parking sensors and a high-definition rearview camera to compensate for the FJ's signature thick C-pillars. The 2022 model also benefits from Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS), a crucial feature for drivers who frequently air-down their tires for desert driving.

The bottom line

This is a prime opportunity for a GCC buyer to secure a late-model, well-maintained FJ Cruiser GXR before they become exclusively high-mileage collector items. It is the perfect balance of a reliable daily driver and a serious off-road machine that effectively pays you back with its incredible resale value.
