Summary

This 2022 Toyota Fortuner VXR offers the ideal balance of rugged capability and family practicality for the GCC market. As the range-topping VXR, it features the smooth 4.0L V6 engine that local buyers prefer for highway overtaking and desert excursions over the smaller four-cylinder variants. The black exterior provides a premium road presence while maintaining strong resale demand in the region. Built on a proven body-on-frame platform, this SUV is designed to handle the extreme temperatures and long-distance drives common across the Emirates and beyond. It remains a standout choice for those seeking a dependable seven-seater that doesn't compromise on mechanical toughness.

This Car vs Other 2022 Fortuners

At 137,192 km, this Fortuner's mileage reflects typical highway-heavy usage for a four-year-old SUV in the GCC, where annual averages often reach 30,000 km. While the mileage is consistent for its age, the VXR trim provides a significant mechanical advantage with its 4.0L V6 engine compared to the high-volume 2.7L models often found in the used market. The black exterior is a highly sought-after resale color in the UAE, ensuring the vehicle maintains its value better than more niche shades.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim is the highest specification available in the GCC, offering features that standard EXR and GXR models lack. It upgrades the driving experience with premium leather upholstery, a powered tailgate, and advanced LED projector headlamps for better visibility on unlit desert roads. Inside, you benefit from a more refined cabin with enhanced infotainment connectivity and wood-grain accents that elevate the interior beyond the utilitarian feel of lower trims.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Toyota Fortuner leads its segment—rivaling the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Ford Everest—by offering a superior balance of mechanical simplicity and resale liquidity. Its body-on-frame construction, shared with the legendary Hilux, provides a level of off-road durability that monocoque crossovers cannot match. Additionally, Toyota's unmatched parts availability across every GCC country gives it a clear advantage for owners planning cross-border road trips.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 delivers a manufacturer-estimated fuel economy of approximately 9.6 km/L, which is surprisingly close to the smaller 2.7L engine under real-world GCC highway loads. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km, and Toyota’s extensive authorized network ensures competitive maintenance costs from Dubai to Muscat. The Fortuner is renowned for having some of the lowest depreciation rates in the UAE, often retaining up to 70% of its value after three years of ownership.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0L V6 engine produces 235 hp and 376 Nm of torque, providing confident acceleration for high-speed highway merges and the low-end grunt needed for sand driving. It features a selectable part-time 4WD system with a low-range transfer case, making it a genuine off-road tool rather than just a city SUV. With a 3,100 kg braked towing capacity and 279 mm of ground clearance, it is equally capable of hauling a boat or navigating rough weekend terrain.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for the GCC climate, the Fortuner VXR features a powerful dual-zone air conditioning system with dedicated vents for all three rows to ensure passenger comfort during peak summer. The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, with a 'One-Touch' tumble mechanism for the second row and space-saving side-folding third-row seats. The cabin is further enhanced by an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring modern connectivity for the whole family.

Safety

Safety is prioritized with a suite of active and passive systems, including seven SRS airbags (driver, passenger, side, curtain, and driver's knee) as standard on this trim. Key features like Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and a Rear View Monitor provide peace of mind during city commutes and steep off-road climbs alike. These systems are specifically calibrated to handle the varied surfaces found across the GCC, from sand-blown highways to gravel tracks.

The bottom line

This Fortuner VXR is the perfect opportunity for a buyer who wants a top-spec, V6-powered SUV with the legendary reliability and resale security that only a GCC-spec Toyota can provide.
