Summary

This 2022 Toyota Fortuner VXR is the definitive choice for GCC families who need a vehicle that can transition seamlessly from the school run to desert dunes. As the top-tier trim, the VXR balances rugged 4.0L V6 power with premium touches like leather upholstery and advanced tech that lower models lack. Its black exterior is a perennial favorite in the UAE market, ensuring strong resale interest when you are ready to upgrade. This model remains a segment leader because it offers genuine body-on-frame durability without the massive footprint of a Land Cruiser, making it much easier to park in busy urban centers like Dubai or Riyadh. For anyone seeking a bulletproof seven-seater with a verified regional reputation, this is the most logical opportunity on the market.

This Car vs Other 2022 Fortuners

With 137,192 km, this Fortuner has been a dedicated highway performer, which is typical for family SUVs in the region that frequently commute between emirates. While the mileage reflects active use, the 4.0L V6 engine is engineered for much higher life cycles, and the black-on-tan color combination remains one of the fastest-selling configurations in the GCC used market.

VXR vs Lower Trims

The VXR trim elevates the Fortuner from a workhorse to a premium SUV by adding essential GCC comforts like ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera system. Unlike the EXR or GXR, the VXR also includes a power-adjustable driver seat, a superior infotainment suite with integrated navigation, and enhanced interior materials that significantly improve cabin refinement during long summer drives.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

The Fortuner leads rivals like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Ford Everest in terms of pure mechanical longevity and ease of maintenance across the UAE. Its 80-litre fuel tank provides a superior touring range for long desert highway stretches, while the Toyota service network ensures you are never more than a short drive from an authorized center in any GCC country.

Running Costs & Resale

The 4.0L V6 engine delivers a real-world combined consumption of approximately 13-15 L/100km, which is competitive for a heavy body-on-frame 4WD in GCC city-highway cycles. Toyota Fortuners are legendary for their value retention, typically depreciating at a slow 10-12% annually in the UAE, far outperforming European competitors. Parts are readily available at every major motor city, keeping long-term maintenance costs predictable and low.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a robust 235 hp V6, this Fortuner provides the necessary torque for confident highway overtaking and moderate desert traversing. It features a genuine low-range transfer case and 225 mm of ground clearance, allowing it to navigate sandy terrain that would stop a standard crossover. The selectable drive modes help optimize the six-speed automatic transmission for either fuel efficiency or maximum response.

Comfort & Cabin

The seven-seat layout is highly versatile, featuring a second row that slides and reclines to maximize passenger comfort. For the GCC climate, the dedicated rear air conditioning vents with independent controls ensure the third row stays cool even during peak summer temperatures. The VXR's leather-trimmed interior and acoustic glass provide a quiet, insulated environment away from the heat and road noise.

Safety

Standard safety features on this VXR trim include a comprehensive suite of airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), and Traction Control for improved grip on sand or gravel. The 360-degree camera and front and rear parking sensors are invaluable for navigating the Fortuner's high-riding profile through tight city parking spots, while Hill-start Assist Control provides added confidence on inclines.

The bottom line

This Fortuner VXR is perfect for a buyer who wants the reliability of a Land Cruiser in a more manageable and fuel-efficient package. It represents a secure investment in one of the region's most trusted automotive nameplates.
