Summary

This 2023 Citroen C5 Aircross Shine represents a sophisticated choice in the compact SUV segment, offering a level of ride comfort that rivals often struggle to match. With its distinctive blue exterior, a popular choice that holds its appeal well in the UAE used market, this Shine trim provides the highest level of equipment available for the model year. The mileage is slightly above the regional average for a one-year-old vehicle, but it has been driven during a period covered by the generous local warranty. For GCC buyers, the standout feature is the Progressive Hydraulic Cushion suspension, which excels at smoothing out both city speed bumps and highway imperfections. It serves as a stylish, comfort-oriented alternative to the more common Japanese crossovers found on local roads.

This Car vs Other 2023 C5 Aircrosses

With 77,000 km, this vehicle has seen more road time than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average for the GCC, suggesting it has likely been used for long-distance inter-emirate commutes. This highway-heavy usage is often easier on the engine and transmission than constant stop-start city traffic in heat. The blue paint is a refreshed, modern choice that performs well for resale compared to niche colors, maintaining a strong presence in the UAE market.

SHINE vs Lower Trims

The Shine trim is the flagship of the range, significantly upgrading the cabin experience over the Feel variant with plush leather upholstery and a larger 10-inch high-definition touchscreen. It introduces essential GCC luxuries like an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and a hands-free power tailgate, which are not standard on lower trims. Most importantly for safety-conscious buyers, the Shine includes the full suite of driver aids, including blind-spot monitoring and a 180-degree park assist system.

C5 Aircross vs Segment Rivals

Compared to rivals like the Hyundai Tucson and Peugeot 3008, the C5 Aircross leads with a class-topping 230 mm of ground clearance, providing extra peace of mind when navigating high curbs or gravel tracks. Its unique modular rear seating allows each of the three seats to slide and recline independently, a feature rarely seen in this segment which usually employs a fixed 60:40 bench. While the Tucson offers a larger service network, the Citroen provides a far more cushioned ride specifically engineered to eliminate high-frequency road vibrations.

Running Costs & Resale

The 1.6-litre turbocharged engine delivers a balanced fuel consumption of approximately 7.0L/100km on the highway, making it efficient for long GCC drives. Maintenance is supported by an established authorized network including Al Rostamani in the UAE, with standard service intervals every 10,000 km. While European SUVs typically depreciate slightly faster than their Japanese counterparts in the region, the high-spec Shine trim maintains better value retention due to its comprehensive feature set.

Performance & Capability

Producing 165 hp and 240 Nm of torque, the C5 Aircross is tuned for smooth, linear power delivery rather than aggressive sprints, reaching 100 km/h in roughly 9 seconds. The front-wheel-drive system is paired with a refined 6-speed automatic transmission that handles the UAE's fast-moving highway traffic with ease. Its high ground clearance is particularly useful for weekend trips to coastal areas or light gravel paths, though it remains firmly a road-focused family cruiser.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is defined by 'Advanced Comfort' seats that use high-density foam to maintain their shape during long drives across the Emirates. The dual-zone climate control system is robust, featuring dedicated rear vents to ensure all five passengers remain cool during the peak summer months. A large panoramic sunroof floods the cabin with light, while the acoustic glass helps insulate the interior from the persistent wind noise typical of desert highway travel.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus for the Shine trim, which comes equipped with six airbags and a 4-star Euro NCAP rating. The ADAS suite includes Active Safety Brake, Lane Keep Assist, and Coffee Break Alert, all of which are invaluable for maintaining focus during long, monotonous desert drives. The 180-degree reversing camera with Top Rear Vision makes parking in tight mall spaces significantly easier and safer.

The bottom line

For the buyer who prioritizes ride quality and French design over segment-standard choices, this high-trim C5 Aircross offers a luxury-adjacent experience at a competitive price point.
