Summary

This 2023 GAC Empow GE represents a highly strategic buy in the current GCC market, offering a mileage of 21,806 km that sits well below the 45,000–50,000 km expected for a vehicle of this age. Finished in Grey, a neutral and consistently strong resale color in the region, this sedan provides a modern alternative to traditional commuters with its aggressive styling and turbocharged performance. The GE trim is particularly sought after for its balance of premium tech and efficiency, making it a standout in city traffic and on long highway stretches. For any buyer looking to bridge the gap between a daily driver and a sportier experience without the typical high-displacement running costs, this Empow is a prime candidate.

This Car vs Other 2023 GAC Empows

With only 21,806 km on the odometer, this vehicle has been driven significantly less than the typical GCC average of 20,000–25,000 km per year. At 3 years old, most comparable models in the market will have double this mileage, giving this specific unit a distinct advantage in mechanical longevity and interior preservation. The Grey exterior is one of the most practical choices for the region, effectively masking desert dust while maintaining high demand in the used market.

GE vs Lower Trims

The GE trim significantly upgrades the ownership experience over the base GS and GB models by adding high-value features like ventilated front seats, which are essential for GCC summers. It also includes the larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen and a full suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. These additions not only improve daily comfort but also help the car command a higher premium at the time of resale.

Empow vs Segment Rivals

When compared to segment stalwarts like the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, the Empow leads with a more performance-oriented 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission and standard tech features that often cost extra on Japanese rivals. Its 480-liter boot space is highly competitive for the compact sedan class, offering more practical family utility than many sportier alternatives. The GAC also benefits from a liquid-cooled intercooler, a technical advantage designed to maintain consistent power output during extreme high-temperature driving.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel efficiency for the 1.5T engine is approximately 6.5 L/100km, making it an economical choice for the long-distance highway commutes common between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Service intervals are typically set at 10,000 km or 6 months, supported by an expanding authorized service network across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. While Chinese brands are still maturing in the market, the Empow currently retains roughly 68% of its value after three years, outperforming many non-GCC spec imports.

Performance & Capability

The Empow GE delivers a verified 0-100 km/h time of 7.0 seconds, which is remarkably quick for a 1.5-liter sedan in this price bracket. The 168 hp engine and 270 Nm of torque provide plenty of low-end punch for highway overtaking and merging into fast-moving UAE traffic. Multiple drive modes, including a dedicated Sport mode, adjust the transmission logic to take full advantage of the turbocharged power delivery.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the GE trim provides a driver-centric cockpit featuring high-quality materials and acoustic glass to insulate against external heat and road noise. The standard ventilation in the front seats is a game-changer for regional drivers, ensuring comfort even during the peak of summer. The cabin also features rear AC vents and a flat-bottom steering wheel that reinforces the car's sporty character without sacrificing five-passenger practicality.

Safety

Safety is a major priority for this trim, which comes standard with six airbags and a comprehensive ADAS platform. Key features include Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning, and a 360-degree camera system that makes parking in tight urban spaces effortless. These active systems are particularly beneficial on high-speed regional highways, providing an extra layer of protection against sudden traffic changes.

The bottom line

For the buyer who wants a low-mileage, tech-heavy sedan that punches above its weight in performance, this GCC-spec Empow GE is an excellent opportunity to own a nearly-new vehicle at a significant value compared to its Japanese competitors.
