Hyundai Santa Fe SMART HEV

Highlights

• 0–100 km/h in 8.9 seconds
• 5.6 L/100km combined fuel consumption (manufacturer official)

Summary

This 2023 Santa Fe SMART HEV is an exceptional choice for GCC families looking to balance seven-seat utility with modern efficiency. The hybrid powertrain is particularly effective for daily commutes in major cities like Dubai or Riyadh, where stop-start traffic allows the electric motor to significantly reduce fuel costs. Finished in White, the most sought-after resale color in the region, this SUV maintains strong market value. While the mileage is higher than the typical annual average, these vehicles are engineered for high-mileage highway durability, making them reliable long-term partners. For the buyer who needs space without the high running costs of a traditional V6, this Santa Fe is a standout regional contender.

This Car vs Other 2023 Santa Fes

At 150,000 km, this vehicle has covered more ground than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual average for the GCC, but this is often a sign of consistent long-distance highway use between emirates. The White exterior is a strategic advantage, offering the highest resale demand and best heat reflection for the local climate. As a 2023 model, it benefits from the latest mechanical refinements and tech updates of its generation.

SMART HEV vs Lower Trims

The SMART HEV trim sits above the base specifications, adding crucial hybrid-specific displays and regenerative braking controls that optimize efficiency. Compared to base petrol trims, you gain a more responsive electrified launch and a significantly quieter cabin experience during low-speed city crawling. It balances premium features like a digital cockpit and enhanced safety tech without the price premium of the range-topping Calligraphy.

Santa Fe vs Segment Rivals

The Santa Fe Hybrid leads rivals like the Toyota Highlander and Kia Sorento by offering a highly competitive 67-liter fuel tank, which, when paired with the 1.6-liter hybrid system, provides a massive total range for cross-border drives. Its interior packaging is often cited for superior second-row legroom compared to more compact crossovers in this class. The Hyundai service network is one of the most extensive across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring easy maintenance.

Running Costs & Resale

This hybrid version delivers a manufacturer-official 5.6 L/100km, which translates to massive savings in stop-start city traffic compared to the 3.5L V6 petrol variants. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 km at authorized centers, which are widely available across all major GCC cities. Hyundai hybrids have shown stable value retention in the UAE market as fuel efficiency becomes a higher priority for used car buyers.

Performance & Capability

The 1.6-liter turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor produces a combined 230 hp, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in 8.9 seconds—plenty of power for confident highway overtaking. The 6-speed automatic transmission provides a more natural driving feel than the CVTs found in many rival hybrids. While this is a front-wheel-drive model suited for urban and highway use, its 176 mm ground clearance handles gravel tracks and weekend beach trips with ease.

Comfort & Cabin

This seven-seater configuration is ideal for large families, featuring dedicated rear AC vents that are essential for maintaining comfort during peak GCC summer temperatures. The hybrid system is packaged under the floor, so you retain a full 628 liters of boot space with the third row stowed. The cabin is well-insulated, providing a serene environment that masks the transition between petrol and electric power during long highway cruises.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the SMART trim includes Hyundai’s comprehensive ADAS suite with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Lane Keeping Assist. These systems are particularly valuable on fast-moving GCC highways, providing an extra layer of protection during long-distance travel. The vehicle also features multiple airbags and stability control systems optimized for high-speed stability and varied road surfaces.

The bottom line

This Santa Fe is perfect for the practical family buyer who prioritizes low running costs and high-capacity seating in a reliable, high-resale package.
