Summary

This 2023 CX-5 GL offers a refined driving experience that bridges the gap between mainstream crossovers and luxury SUVs. With a vehicle age of 3 years and mileage that reflects consistent highway use, it represents a well-maintained entry into the modern Mazda lineup. The Grey exterior is one of the most resilient and high-demand colors in the GCC, ensuring strong resale value when you eventually decide to upgrade. For a GCC buyer, this model stands out for its superior cabin insulation and high-quality materials that outclass rivals in this price bracket. It remains a top choice for those who prioritize a premium feel and Japanese reliability for their daily commute.

This Car vs Other 2023 CX-5s

At 85,774 km, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the typical GCC annual average for a 3-year-old car, suggesting it has been used primarily for long-distance highway travel between emirates. This type of usage is often better for mechanical longevity than stop-start city driving, as it allows the engine to reach and maintain optimal operating temperatures. The Grey finish is a strategic choice for the local market, as it hides dust well and is consistently among the top three colors for resale speed in the UAE.

GL vs Lower Trims

As the foundational trim in the GCC, the GL provides the essential Mazda SkyActiv experience without unnecessary complexity. While higher trims add larger wheels and leather, the GL focuses on practical daily technology including a large infotainment display with smartphone integration and the full suite of Mazda's active safety features. It is the ideal choice for buyers who want the model's sophisticated chassis and mechanical reliability while keeping long-term maintenance costs predictable.

CX-5 vs Segment Rivals

The CX-5 is frequently cross-shopped with the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, but it leads both in terms of interior refinement and driving dynamics. Its 6-speed automatic transmission provides a more natural and engaging feel than the CVTs found in many competitors, which is particularly noticeable during highway overtaking. Additionally, Mazda’s focus on cabin quietness makes it a superior choice for the long, fast-moving highway stretches common across the GCC.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for the 2.5L AWD powertrain averages around 7.1 L/100km, performing efficiently on long GCC highway drives while remaining manageable in city traffic. Mazda has an extensive authorized service network across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, ensuring that parts and expert maintenance are always accessible. Historically, the CX-5 retains approximately 60% of its value at the 3-year mark in the local market, making it one of the more stable investments in the compact SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

Equipped with the 188 hp SkyActiv-G 2.5 engine, this SUV delivers smooth, linear power that is perfectly suited for navigating the UAE's multi-lane highway systems. The i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system provides added stability during the rare but heavy regional rainstorms and offers confidence when traversing gravel paths or sandy transitions during weekend outings. With a ground clearance of 193 mm, it comfortably handles speed humps and urban obstacles while maintaining a car-like composure at high speeds.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed with a driver-centric layout that emphasizes ergonomics and high-quality tactile surfaces. Even in the height of the GCC summer, the powerful dual-zone climate control system and dedicated rear vents ensure all five passengers remain comfortable. High-grade cabin insulation significantly reduces road and wind noise, creating a serene environment for cross-country trips or the daily rush-hour grind.

Safety

Safety is a primary strength, with this model carrying a 5-star Euro NCAP rating. It comes standard with a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems including blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking. These technologies are particularly valuable in the GCC, providing an extra layer of protection during high-speed highway travel and in congested urban traffic environments.

The bottom line

For the buyer seeking a sophisticated, reliable SUV that feels more expensive than it is, this GCC-spec CX-5 is a smart, market-ready choice. Its combination of a high-demand color and proven mechanical durability makes it a secure purchase for both first-time owners and families.
