Summary

This 2023 Toyota Prado TX-L is a prime example of the region's favorite durable SUV, offering a rare diesel powertrain that delivers exceptional range for cross-border GCC travel. With just under 22,000 km, its mileage is significantly lower than the typical 25,000 km annual average found in the UAE, making it a highly attractive long-term prospect. The black exterior is a high-demand resale color in the local market, ensuring strong value retention when you eventually decide to upgrade. While most Prados in the city are petrol-hungry V6s, this 2.8L turbo-diesel provides the low-end grunt needed for effortless highway overtaking and serious desert expeditions. It is the ideal choice for a buyer who prioritizes mechanical longevity and touring range without sacrificing the luxury of a 7-seat cabin.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

At 21,977 km, this Prado has been driven much less than the average 2023 model in the GCC, which typically covers 40,000 km or more in two years. Its diesel configuration is a standout feature, offering significantly better fuel efficiency and highway range than the more common 2.7L and 4.0L petrol variants. The black-on-black aesthetic remains a top-tier choice for resale in Dubai and Riyadh, maintaining a price premium over less conventional colors.

TX-L vs Lower Trims

The TX-L trim is a significant step up from the base EXR, adding essential GCC comforts like a cooled center console and an upgraded 9-inch touchscreen with integrated Apple CarPlay. It also features LED headlamps with auto-levelling and a sunroof, amenities often missing on entry-level units. This specific trim balances rugged capability with the premium interior finishes that local buyers expect for long family journeys.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

When compared to rivals like the Mitsubishi Pajero or Ford Everest, the Prado leads with an unmatched reputation for reliability and the widest authorized service network across the entire GCC. Its 500 Nm torque figure from the 2.8L diesel engine provides better low-end pulling power for sandy terrain than the Pajero's naturally aspirated units. Furthermore, the Prado’s dual-tank potential and diesel efficiency offer a total touring range that few competitors can match on long desert hauls.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world diesel consumption averages around 8.5 to 10 km/L, offering a substantial saving over petrol variants in stop-start city traffic. Toyota’s massive presence in the UAE and KSA ensures that spare parts are available in almost every major town, keeping long-term maintenance costs predictable. The Prado historically retains roughly 70-80% of its value over three years in the GCC, one of the highest rates in the automotive industry.

Performance & Capability

The 2.8L turbo-diesel produces a verified 500 Nm of torque, which is essential for maintaining momentum in soft sand or when towing up to 3,000 kg. Its full-time All-Wheel Drive system, paired with a low-range transfer case, allows for genuine off-road exploration that soft-roader crossovers cannot handle. On the highway, the 201 hp output ensures steady cruising speeds and comfortable overtaking, even with a full load of seven passengers.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for the Gulf climate, featuring a powerful multi-zone air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all three rows cool during summer. A factory-fitted cool box in the center console is a game-changer for long desert drives, keeping beverages chilled in 45°C heat. The 7-seat layout is highly flexible, allowing the third row to fold flat for a significant increase in cargo space for camping gear or family shopping.

Safety

This TX-L trim comes standard with an essential suite of safety features, including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Active Traction Control (A-TRC) to maintain grip on gravel and sand. It features dual front airbags and a high-strength body-on-frame construction that provides superior protection in both urban and off-road environments. Rear parking sensors and a high-definition camera are standard, making the vehicle easy to maneuver in tight city parking spaces.

The bottom line

This low-mileage diesel Prado is the perfect match for a GCC resident seeking a bulletproof family workhorse that excels in fuel economy and long-distance touring range.
