Summary

This 2023 Prado GXR represents the final year of its generation, making it a highly refined and bulletproof choice for the GCC market. Finished in white, it sits in the strongest possible color category for resale, paired with the legendary 6-cylinder engine known for its mechanical longevity across the region. As a mid-tier trim, it balances essential ruggedness with elevated interior tech like a 9-inch infotainment system and tri-zone climate control. Whether you are navigating stop-start traffic in Riyadh or heading out for a desert weekend, the Prado remains the standard for reliability and parts availability from Abu Dhabi to Muscat. This is an ideal opportunity to own a proven icon just as it begins its most dependable lifecycle.

This Car vs Other 2023 Prados

With average GCC annual mileage typically reaching 25,000 km, this white 2023 model is positioned as a prime resale asset. White remains the highest-demand color in the Emirates and Saudi Arabia, effectively shielding the car's value against faster-depreciating rivals. Choosing a GCC-spec model ensures the cooling system and cabin insulation are specifically engineered for our extreme summer temperatures.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim provides a significant upgrade over the base EXR, most notably adding a power sunroof and larger 19-inch alloy wheels that improve its road presence. Inside, you benefit from a larger 9-inch infotainment display and tri-zone automatic climate control, allowing rear passengers to manage their own cooling—a critical feature for family comfort during the summer months. It also upgrades safety to a 7-airbag system compared to the dual-airbag setup in entry-level variants.

Prado vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mitsubishi Montero Sport or Ford Everest, the Prado leads with its massive 150-litre dual fuel tank capability, providing a touring range that makes cross-border drives between UAE and Oman effortless. While rivals may offer more soft-touch plastics, the Prado's body-on-frame construction and solid rear axle offer far superior durability for heavy-duty desert use and long-term ownership. The authorized service network for Toyota in the GCC is significantly deeper than any European or American competitor.

Running Costs & Resale

The 6-cylinder petrol engine is optimized for local fuel grades and handles the stop-start city traffic of Dubai and Riyadh with predictable efficiency. Service intervals are standard at 10,000 km, with one of the lowest maintenance costs in the SUV segment due to the widespread availability of genuine parts. Historically, the Prado GXR holds approximately 70-72% of its value after three years, outperforming almost every other mid-size SUV in the GCC used market.

Performance & Capability

The 4.0-litre V6 provides a smooth 271 hp, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of approximately 8.5 seconds, which is ample for highway overtaking and sand dune navigation. Its 219mm ground clearance and low-range transfer case allow it to tackle terrain that would stop most road-biased crossovers. The selectable Multi-Terrain Select system manages wheel spin automatically, making it accessible for novice off-roaders and highly capable for experts.

Comfort & Cabin

This seven-seater features a versatile 40/20/40 folding second row and a third row that accommodates the whole family for local weekend trips. The GCC-spec air conditioning is renowned for its ability to chill the cabin rapidly even in 45°C+ heat, supported by dedicated vents for all three rows. A factory-fitted cool box in the center console keeps beverages cold during long desert drives, a staple luxury for the region's drivers.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the GXR trim includes seven airbags, providing comprehensive protection for all occupants. It features active stability and traction control systems that are particularly effective on loose sand and gravel surfaces. Drivers also benefit from rear parking sensors and a high-resolution camera to assist with maneuvering this large SUV in tight urban parking spaces.

The bottom line

This Prado GXR is the perfect match for a buyer who prioritizes legendary reliability and market-leading resale value. It is a robust, well-equipped family workhorse that is as comfortable on the E11 highway as it is on the dunes of Liwa.
