Summary

This 2025 Geely Coolray GL represents a modern crossover choice for UAE drivers, combining a punchy 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a level of interior technology that punch above its weight class. With under 38,000 km in one year, its mileage is perfectly consistent with standard GCC highway use, ensuring the powertrain is well-broken in and ready for long commutes. The white exterior is the highest-demand resale color in the region, offering the best heat reflection during summer months and strong value retention for future trade-ins. Positioned as a sharp, agile alternative to more conservative Japanese rivals, it delivers a spirited driving experience without the premium fuel bill. For those seeking a nearly-new crossover with contemporary digital features, this GCC-spec GL trim provides an excellent entry point into the brand's most popular model.

This Car vs Other 2025 Coolrays

At 37,910 km, this Coolray sits within the expected mileage range for a one-year-old vehicle in the UAE, where annual averages often reach 30,000 km due to highway commuting between Emirates. The white exterior is a strategic choice for the GCC, consistently holding higher resale value than darker shades and significantly reducing cabin heat soak during peak summer. As a 2025 model, it benefits from the latest refinements in Geely's NordThor powertrain technology, offering better vibration dampening than earlier iterations.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim serves as the gateway to the Coolray lineup but retains the high-output 1.5TD 4-cylinder engine and the massive 12-inch central infotainment screen found in higher trims. It includes essential GCC features like a high-definition reverse camera and rear parking sensors that are often stripped from base-model competitors. While higher trims add panoramic roofs and ventilated seats, the GL focus remains on delivering the same core performance and modern digital cockpit at a more accessible price point.

Coolray vs Segment Rivals

The Coolray leads rivals like the MG ZS and Hyundai Creta in straight-line performance, utilizing a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission that feels significantly more responsive during highway overtaking. Its 1.5-liter turbo engine provides more torque than the naturally aspirated units found in the Toyota Raize, making it better suited for fast-moving Dubai and Riyadh traffic. The cabin tech, specifically the seamless Apple CarPlay integration and digital cluster, offers a more premium interface than many entry-level Japanese alternatives.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel economy is a strong point, with the NordThor engine achieving approximately 6.5 L/100km, which is highly competitive for the GCC crossover segment. Maintenance is supported by an expanding authorized service network through AGMC in the UAE and Wallan in Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts availability across the region. As one of the fastest-growing brands in the Middle East, Geely has seen improved value retention, with the Coolray typically retaining roughly 60% of its value over the first three years.

Performance & Capability

The standout figure is the 7.6-second 0–100 km/h acceleration, a time that beats most of its subcompact crossover competitors and makes city driving genuinely engaging. The 290 Nm of torque is delivered early in the rev range, providing effortless power for merging onto fast-moving highways like Sheikh Zayed Road. While front-wheel drive, the BMA architecture provides a composed ride that handles the expansion joints and high-speed curves of GCC highways with impressive stability.

Comfort & Cabin

The interior is dominated by a dual-screen digital layout that creates a tech-forward atmosphere rarely seen at this price level. For the GCC climate, the automatic air conditioning is tuned for rapid cooling, complemented by rear vents to ensure all five passengers remain comfortable during July heat. The fabric and leatherette seating is durable and easy to maintain, while the 330-liter boot provides practical space for grocery runs or weekend trips between cities.

Safety

This GL trim comes standard with essential safety tech including dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control to maintain grip on sandy or rain-slicked surfaces. The inclusion of Hill Descent Control and Auto Hold makes navigating multi-story mall parking and stop-start traffic much easier. It also features a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which is vital for safe highway driving in the extreme heat of the Gulf.

The bottom line

This 2025 Coolray GL is the ideal choice for a young professional or small family looking for a stylish, tech-heavy crossover that is still under its manufacturer-backed lifecycle. It offers the best balance of performance and modern features for the budget-conscious GCC buyer.
