Summary

This 2024 Geely Coolray GL offers a compelling entry into the modern compact SUV market, especially for those prioritizing efficiency and tech without the high initial showroom price. With a 2-year vehicle age and 53,771 km, the mileage is slightly above the typical GCC annual average, yet it remains a mechanically sound choice for regional highway commuting. The blue exterior is a distinctive, vibrant choice that maintains solid appeal in the local pre-owned market. As a GCC-spec model, it is fully optimized for the extreme summer heat, ensuring long-term reliability for its next owner. This trim strikes a smart balance between punchy turbocharged performance and low daily running costs.

This Car vs Other 2024 Geely Coolrays

With a mileage of 53,771 km over 2 years, this vehicle has been driven more than the average GCC annual distance of 20,000–25,000 km, suggesting regular highway use which often results in less engine wear than stop-start city traffic. The blue finish offers a refreshing alternative to the common silver and white cars, standing out while retaining good resale potential. As a 2024 model, it benefits from the latest NordThor engine refinements and updated cabin tech found in the newest generation.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim serves as a significant step up from basic entry models by including essential GCC-preferred technology like the 360-degree camera system and a large infotainment touchscreen. It retains the same potent 1.5L turbocharged engine as the higher GF trims, ensuring you don't sacrifice performance for value. While it lacks the panoramic sunroof of the top-spec models, the GL is highly sought after for its simpler maintenance profile and superior fuel economy.

Coolray vs Segment Rivals

The Coolray leads rivals like the MG ZS and Hyundai Creta with a faster 0–100 km/h time of 7.6 seconds, offering a much more spirited drive on fast-moving UAE highways. Its Volvo-derived BMA platform provides a level of chassis refinement and safety tech that many budget-focused competitors cannot match. For long-distance driving across the Emirates, its superior fuel efficiency of 5.8 L/100km gives it a distinct advantage in reducing monthly running costs.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption is remarkably low for a crossover, averaging around 5.8 to 6.5 L/100km depending on the driving cycle, making it ideal for the long commutes between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Geely has established an extensive authorized service network through major distributors in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, ensuring parts availability and professional maintenance are never an issue. The Coolray has shown surprisingly resilient value retention in the GCC, typically depreciating at a competitive 12-15% annually.

Performance & Capability

Powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine, the Coolray delivers 174 hp and 290 Nm of torque, which is exceptional for its class. The 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission provides rapid gear changes in just 0.2 seconds, making highway overtaking confident and smooth. Selectable drive modes, including a 'Smart' mode, allow the vehicle to adapt to varying GCC road conditions, balancing comfort for city commutes with responsiveness for open roads.

Comfort & Cabin

The 5-seat cabin is designed with the GCC climate in mind, featuring a powerful air conditioning system that quickly cools the interior even in peak summer. High-quality fabric seats offer durability and stay cooler than leather after being parked in the sun. The digital cockpit and large central display provide a modern, tech-forward feel, while the ample legroom in both rows makes it a practical choice for small families or weekend road trips.

Safety

Safety is a core strength, with this trim featuring a 360-degree camera system that is invaluable for tight city parking in Riyadh or Dubai. The standard suite includes Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, and Hill Start Assist, which provide confidence on sandy or gravel-strewn surfaces. Multiple airbags and a high-strength steel cage ensure that it meets stringent safety requirements for family use across the region.

The bottom line

For the budget-conscious buyer who refuses to sacrifice performance or modern tech, this 2024 Coolray GL represents a smart, GCC-ready crossover that is ready for immediate daily service.
