• 483 hp from a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo
• 3,493 kg braked towing capacity

Summary

This 2024 GLS 580 delivers the commanding presence and effortless power that GCC drivers demand, bridging the gap between standard luxury and the high-performance AMG 63. With a V8 engine that provides superior highway overtaking compared to the six-cylinder GLS 450, it is perfectly suited for long-distance travel across the Emirates. Its Blue exterior offers a refreshing yet professional alternative to the typical monochrome palette while maintaining excellent resale appeal in the UAE market. For a vehicle just one year old, this is a prime opportunity to secure a flagship SUV that feels at home from the Burj Khalifa to the highways of Abu Dhabi.

This Car vs Other 2024 GLS 580s

With just over 50,000 km in one year, this vehicle's mileage is slightly above the typical GCC average for luxury SUVs, reflecting significant highway use—the most favorable driving condition for a V8 powertrain. The American regional spec offers a competitive entry point into the GLS flagship range compared to GCC-spec equivalents, often arriving with unique interior color combinations. The metallic blue finish is a sophisticated choice that stands out in a market dominated by white and silver, retaining strong secondary market demand.

AMG vs Lower Trims

Choosing the GLS 580 with the AMG Line exterior package adds a more aggressive front apron, flared wheel arches, and 21-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels that significantly sharpen the SUV's profile. Inside, you move from the inline-six to a sophisticated 4.0-litre V8 biturbo, complemented by standard soft-close doors and genuine leather upholstery which are often costly upgrades on the GLS 450. The cabin is further elevated with standard ventilated front seats and four-zone climate control, essentials for managing the peak summer temperatures in the Gulf.

GLS 580 vs Segment Rivals

The GLS 580 leads the BMW X7 xDrive40i in sheer cylinder count and torque, providing a more relaxed and quiet cruising experience on long desert stretches. Compared to the Cadillac Escalade, the GLS offers a more car-like, refined ride thanks to its AIRMATIC air suspension, while its 90-litre fuel tank ensures fewer stops during cross-border drives. Its third-row seating remains the gold standard in the luxury crossover segment, offering genuine adult-sized legroom that rivals often fail to match.

Running Costs & Resale

The mild-hybrid V8 system averages approximately 14.6 L/100km, which is efficient for a 483 hp SUV but reflects the reality of GCC city traffic and high-speed highway cruising. As an American spec vehicle, maintenance is widely supported by independent specialists across the UAE, though buyers should verify service compatibility with local authorized centers. Mercedes-Benz flagship SUVs typically retain roughly 65-70% of their value over the first three years in the local market, benefiting from the brand's prestigious status and the V8's continued desirability.

Performance & Capability

The 483 hp V8 biturbo engine propels this large SUV from 0–100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds, ensuring effortless merging onto fast-moving UAE motorways. The standard 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system works in tandem with the 48-volt mild-hybrid EQ Boost technology to eliminate turbo lag, providing instant response during city driving. With a verified towing capacity of 3,493 kg, it is one of the few luxury SUVs capable of comfortably hauling large boats or horse trailers for weekend excursions.

Comfort & Cabin

This seven-seat configuration is designed for maximum family utility, featuring a power-folding third row and easy-entry second-row access. The cabin is an oasis against the heat, equipped with powerful air conditioning and acoustic glass that keeps the interior remarkably quiet even at high cruising speeds. Technology is headlined by the MBUX widescreen cockpit with dual 12.3-inch displays, providing seamless navigation through the Emirates with augmented reality overlays.

Safety

This GLS 580 comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active safety systems, including Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, which is indispensable for maintaining safety on the E11 highway. The 360-degree camera system and Active Parking Assist make maneuvering this 5.2-meter SUV simple in tight urban parking structures. Standard features like blind-spot monitoring and lane-keeping assist provide constant vigilance against fast-moving traffic, while multiple airbags ensure maximum occupant protection.

The bottom line

This 2024 GLS 580 AMG Line is the ideal choice for a family looking for flagship V8 power and S-Class levels of refinement at a significant saving over a GCC-spec equivalent.
