• 5.3 L/100km combined fuel consumption

Summary

This 2024 Suzuki Baleno GL is a smart choice for urban drivers looking for a modern, fuel-efficient hatchback that's still well within its manufacturer-standard performance prime. In the GCC market, silver and grey remain top-tier resale colors, ensuring this vehicle holds its value better than more niche palettes. As a 2024 model, it benefits from Suzuki's updated 1.5L engine, which provides a significant torque boost over older 1.4L versions for easier highway merging. The GL trim is highly regarded for balancing essential tech like a touchscreen and cruise control without the premium price tag of the GLX. For any buyer in the region, the combination of Suzuki's legendary reliability and a vast authorized service network across the UAE and beyond makes this a low-risk, high-utility purchase.

This Car vs Other 2024 Suzuki Balenos

With approximately 52,925 km, this Baleno has been driven slightly more than the typical 20,000–25,000 km annual GCC average, suggesting it has primarily served as a reliable highway commuter. In the local market, highway-driven Suzukis are often preferred over city-idled cars as they face less stress on the transmission and cooling systems. The metallic grey exterior is one of the most practical choices for the region, hiding dust well and maintaining a strong resale profile.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL serves as the standard-bearer for value in the Baleno lineup, including features often missing from base-tier competitors like automatic climate control and rear AC vents—essential for GCC summers. It also features a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, providing a significant tech upgrade over basic audio units. While it trades the GLX’s 360-degree camera for a standard reverse camera and sensors, it retains the same efficient 1.5L powertrain.

Baleno vs Segment Rivals

The Baleno consistently leads rivals like the Kia Rio and Toyota Yaris in terms of interior width and rear legroom, feeling more like a subcompact sedan than a small hatch. Its 37-litre fuel tank paired with a highly efficient 1.5L engine offers a cruising range that rivals many larger cars, perfect for cross-emirate trips. Additionally, the Baleno's HEARTECT platform makes it significantly lighter than its peers, resulting in better agility and fuel savings in stop-start traffic.

Running Costs & Resale

Expect real-world fuel consumption to hover around 5.3 L/100km on highways, making it one of the most economical non-hybrid cars in the GCC. Suzuki enjoys one of the most extensive and affordable service networks in the UAE, with minor service intervals typically every 10,000 km. Historically, the Baleno retains roughly 60% of its value after three years in the GCC market, outperforming European rivals and matching top Japanese competitors. Parts availability is excellent, ensuring minimal downtime and low long-term maintenance costs.

Performance & Capability

The 1.5L four-cylinder engine produces 103 hp, which is perfectly tuned for the Baleno's lightweight frame, allowing for a top speed of 180 km/h. On the road, this translates to a spirited response that handles Dubai's fast-moving highways with confidence and ease. The four-speed automatic transmission is geared for durability and smooth shifts, specifically engineered to handle the high ambient temperatures of the region without overheating. A 150 mm ground clearance ensures it manages speed bumps and uneven parking areas without the risk of underbody scrapes.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the cabin is surprisingly spacious for a hatchback, offering a 318-litre boot that expands significantly with the 60:40 split-folding rear seats. The GL trim includes a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and a powerful automatic air conditioning system with dedicated rear vents to keep all four passengers cool during peak summer. Fabric seats are chosen for their heat-resistance compared to leather, making entry comfortable even after the car has been parked in the sun. Practical storage cubbies and USB ports in both the front and rear ensure all occupants stay connected.

Safety

The 2024 Baleno GL is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) to maintain traction on sandy or wet road surfaces. For daily commuting, the inclusion of cruise control and rear parking sensors with a camera provides peace of mind on long highway stretches and in tight city spots. It also features ISOFIX child seat anchors and a pedestrian-injury mitigating body frame, making it a responsible choice for small families.

The bottom line

This 2024 Baleno is the ideal opportunity for a budget-conscious buyer who refuses to sacrifice modern tech or reliability. It offers the best balance of age, fuel efficiency, and GCC-specific cooling performance available in the hatchback market today.
