Highlights

• Hybrid powertrain for city and highway efficiency
• 65-litre fuel tank standard
• Seven seats with all-wheel drive

Summary

This 2024 Highlander GXR represents a highly sought-after combination of seven-seat utility and hybrid efficiency, perfect for navigating the UAE’s busy city traffic and long inter-city commutes. With silver being a premier resale color in the GCC and the mileage sitting right at the typical annual average for the region, this SUV offers a balanced entry point into a nearly-new vehicle. The GXR trim bridges the gap between essential utility and premium comfort, making it a favorite for families prioritizing long-term value. As a Toyota hybrid, it benefits from one of the most reliable electrified systems on the planet and a service network that spans every corner of the GCC. This is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants a modern family hauler that minimizes fuel stops without sacrificing all-wheel-drive capability.

This Car vs Other 2024 Highlanders

With approximately 77,000 km, this vehicle's usage is consistent with the higher annual mileage typically seen on GCC highways. The silver exterior is a strategic choice for the local market, offering high heat reflection and strong resale demand compared to darker or niche colors. While this is an American-spec model, it offers the same mechanical robusticity that has made the model a staple on Dubai and Riyadh roads.

GXR vs Lower Trims

The GXR trim enhances the base offering by adding essential GCC-friendly features such as a sunroof and roof rails for additional utility. Inside, it steps up the technology with a larger infotainment interface and tri-zone automatic climate control, ensuring every row stays cool during the peak summer months. It also includes upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as standard.

Highlander vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Honda Pilot or Kia Telluride, the Highlander Hybrid leads significantly in fuel economy, utilizing its 2.5L hybrid system to achieve figures that V6 rivals cannot match in stop-start traffic. While competitors often rely on larger displacement engines, the Highlander offers a total combined range of nearly 950 km on a single tank, making it the superior choice for cross-border drives to Oman or Saudi Arabia.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption for this hybrid powertrain typically averages around 5.0 L/100km, offering massive savings over traditional petrol SUVs in the same class. Service intervals are generally every 10,000 km, and Toyota’s authorized network is the most extensive in the region, ensuring parts are always accessible. Historically, the Highlander retains approximately 90% of its value after the first year in the GCC, outperforming almost all European rivals.

Performance & Capability

The 2.5L hybrid system delivers a refined 240 hp, providing smooth, linear acceleration that is particularly useful for overtaking on fast-moving highways like Sheikh Zayed Road. The electronic All-Wheel Drive system engages instantly when it detects slip, providing confidence on rain-slicked roads or gravel paths during weekend outings. Despite its focus on efficiency, the SUV maintains a comfortable ground clearance suitable for light desert excursions and high-clearance speed bumps.

Comfort & Cabin

Configured with seven seats, the cabin is designed for family logistics, featuring a middle row that slides to balance legroom between the second and third rows. The powerful Toyota air conditioning system is built to handle 45°C+ temperatures, with dedicated vents for all three rows to maintain consistent cabin cooling. Standard acoustic glass helps isolate the interior from road noise, providing a quiet environment for long-distance cruising.

Safety

Safety is a primary focus with the inclusion of the Toyota Safety Sense suite, featuring pre-collision systems with pedestrian detection and lane departure alerts. For highway driving, the adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are indispensable, while seven airbags provide comprehensive protection for all occupants. This trim also includes an integrated rear-view camera and parking sensors to make maneuvering this mid-sized SUV effortless in tight mall parking lots.

The bottom line

For the GCC family looking to slash their monthly fuel bill while retaining legendary Toyota reliability, this 2024 Highlander Hybrid GXR is a smart, market-aligned investment.
