Summary

This 2025 BYD Leopard 5 offers a high-performance alternative to traditional SUVs, delivering sports-car acceleration and serious off-road hardware in a modern PHEV package. Its black exterior is a top-tier choice for resale value in the GCC, and as a 2025 model, it represents the latest in Chinese new-energy vehicle (NEV) innovation. The DMO platform is specifically designed to bridge the gap between heavy desert capability and fuel-efficient city commuting. For UAE and Saudi buyers, this car provides 680 horsepower and triple differential locks at a price point that significantly undercuts established luxury rivals.

This Car vs Other 2025 Leopard 5s

As a brand-new 2025 model, this vehicle features the most current software and battery management systems available for the Leopard 5 lineup. In the GCC market, where high-mileage highway driving is common, this car's new status offers a significant advantage for long-term reliability and battery health. The black exterior is highly sought after in the regional used market, ensuring faster resale and better value retention compared to less conventional colors.

STANDARD vs Lower Trims

Even in its Standard trim, this vehicle comes equipped with the core performance hardware that defines the model, including the 31.8 kWh Blade Battery and dual-motor AWD system. It includes essential GCC features such as ventilated and heated front seats, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and the 15.6-inch central touchscreen. While higher trims add hydraulic body control, the Standard trim provides a more traditional mechanical suspension that many off-road enthusiasts prefer for its long-term simplicity and ease of maintenance.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

The Leopard 5 competes directly with the Toyota Prado and Great Wall Motor's Tank 500, leading both in sheer power and acceleration thanks to its 680 hp hybrid output. Its CLTC-rated total range of 1,200 km provides a massive advantage for long-distance desert expeditions or cross-border travel between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. Unlike traditional petrol-only rivals, its 125 km electric-only range allows for a fuel-free daily commute in heavy GCC traffic.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is highly efficient for a 3-tonne SUV, with manufacturer data indicating approximately 7.8 L/100km when the battery is depleted—a figure that beats most V6 competitors in GCC stop-start traffic. As a Chinese-spec parallel import, owners should note that official Al-Futtaim (AFEMC) service centers may not cover the warranty, though specialized third-party service centers for BYD parts are rapidly expanding in Sharjah and Dubai. Resale values for high-end Chinese NEVs in the GCC typically see an annual depreciation of 15-20%, making this an excellent value-focused entry into the premium SUV segment.

Performance & Capability

The headline 4.8-second 0-100 km/h time makes this one of the quickest SUVs in its price bracket, ensuring effortless highway overtaking even at high ambient temperatures. For off-roaders, the vehicle features a 35° approach angle and a 32° departure angle, supported by front, center, and rear electronic differential locks. The body-on-frame construction provides the rugged durability needed for weekend wadi runs in Ras Al Khaimah or dune crossing in the Liwa desert.

Comfort & Cabin

The five-seat cabin is built for the harsh GCC climate, featuring powerful dual-zone air conditioning and high-quality insulation to keep the heat out. Passengers benefit from an immersive Devialet audio system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that remains legible under direct desert sunlight. The interior layout focuses on utility and technology, including a 50-inch head-up display and a built-in refrigerator to keep drinks cold during long summer drives.

Safety

Standard safety features include a comprehensive L2+ ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and autonomous emergency braking, which are invaluable for fast-moving multi-lane highway traffic. The vehicle is built with a CTC (Cell-to-Chassis) architecture that uses the Blade Battery as a structural component, significantly increasing torsional rigidity and occupant protection. Blind-spot monitoring and a 360-degree camera system come standard to assist with parking and maneuvering in tight urban environments.

The bottom line

This 2025 BYD Leopard 5 is the ideal choice for a tech-forward buyer who wants supercar-level power and genuine desert capability without the high fuel costs of a traditional V8. It is a rare opportunity to own a cutting-edge hybrid off-roader that is as comfortable on Sheikh Zayed Road as it is in the dunes.
