• 1,200 km total combined range (CLTC)

Summary

This 2026 BYD Leopard 5 Ultra is a game-changer for the GCC market, offering the rare combination of supercar-level acceleration and genuine off-road hardware. As the flagship Ultra trim, it features the sophisticated DiSus-P hydraulic suspension that adapts instantly to both high-speed highway cruising and technical dune climbing. The Black exterior is a perennially strong choice for resale value in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, masking the rugged body-on-frame proportions with a sleek, executive presence. With its dual-mode hybrid system, you can handle the daily Dubai-to-Abu Dhabi commute on electric power alone while maintaining the total range needed for cross-border expeditions. This is the ideal choice for a tech-forward buyer who refuses to choose between a luxury daily driver and a serious desert explorer.

This Car vs Other 2026 Leopard 5s

While most 2026 models in the region are fresh imports, this Ultra trim sits at the top of the hierarchy with the highest possible mechanical specification. Its mileage is negligible for a vehicle of this year, effectively offering a new-car experience with the immediate availability that local dealers often lack. Choosing the Black finish ensures the best possible liquidity in the secondary market, where neutral tones dominate GCC resale preference.

ULTRA vs Lower Trims

The Ultra trim is distinguished by the inclusion of the DiSus-P intelligent hydraulic body control system, which allows for active height adjustment and superior damping compared to the standard steel springs. Inside, it adds high-value features for the GCC climate, including Nappa leather massage seats and a dedicated passenger-side entertainment display. It also features a massive 50-inch AR-HUD and a premium 18-speaker Devialet audio system that aren't standard on base models.

Leopard 5 vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Toyota Prado or Tank 500, the Leopard 5 offers significantly higher performance with its 680 hp output and faster 0-100 km/h timing. Its PHEV architecture provides a distinct advantage for city driving in traffic-heavy areas like Riyadh or Dubai, offering 125 km of pure EV range (CLTC) that petrol-only rivals cannot match. The body-on-frame construction ensures it remains as durable as its traditional competitors when taken off the tarmac.

Running Costs & Resale

Real-world fuel consumption is highly efficient at approximately 1.8 L/100 km when the battery is utilized, though this rises to roughly 7.8 L/100 km when running on the 1.5T engine alone. As a Chinese-spec import, buyers should confirm service compatibility with local providers, though parts availability for BYD’s global platforms is rapidly expanding across the UAE. Depreciation for high-tech Chinese EVs is currently stabilizing as the brand gains a foothold, though the Ultra trim’s high equipment level helps it hold value better than base versions.

Performance & Capability

The DMO (Dual Mode Off-road) platform delivers a combined 680 hp and 760 Nm of torque, making it one of the fastest SUVs in its price bracket. Off-road capability is supported by three electronic differential locks and a maximum wading depth of 700 mm, specifically tuned for desert and wadi conditions. The DiSus-P suspension can lift the vehicle to a maximum ground clearance of 310 mm, providing clearance that rivals modified specialized off-roaders.

Comfort & Cabin

The cabin is designed for long-distance comfort with ventilated and heated front seats, essential for the extreme summer heat in the GCC. The 15.6-inch central display and dedicated passenger screen create a high-tech lounge environment, while the acoustic glass helps insulate the interior from road noise and external heat. Rear passengers benefit from dedicated climate controls and ample legroom, making it a capable family carrier for weekend trips to Hatta or Salalah.

Safety

This Ultra trim comes equipped with the full DiPilot ADAS suite, featuring adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and autonomous emergency braking. A specialized 360-degree camera system with a 'transparent chassis' view is standard, providing vital visibility when navigating sharp rocks or steep dunes. The LFP Blade Battery technology is also designed for superior thermal stability, a critical safety factor during the high-temperature months in the Gulf.

The bottom line

This 2026 Leopard 5 Ultra is the ultimate PHEV for the UAE, combining supercar levels of power with the ruggedness of a traditional 4x4. It is the perfect opportunity for an early adopter looking for the highest possible trim without the typical wait times.
