Summary

This 2026 Toyota Fortuner EXR is an ideal entry point for GCC families seeking a mix of daily urban utility and weekend desert capability. As a GCC-spec model, it features the reinforced cooling systems and regional warranty support essential for the local climate. The Grey exterior is a highly practical choice for the region, offering better heat management than black and stronger resale appeal than non-standard tones. While the 2.7L engine prioritizes long-term reliability over raw speed, the inclusion of a genuine 4x4 transfer case ensures it remains more capable off-road than most unibody crossovers in its class. For the UAE buyer, this represents a low-depreciation asset backed by one of the most accessible parts networks in the country.

This Car vs Other 2026 Fortuners

With the 2026 model year being virtually new to the market, this listing offers a significant advantage over high-mileage examples often found in the GCC rental or fleet sectors. Its Grey finish is a top-tier resale color in the UAE, consistently holding value better than niche colors while hiding desert dust effectively. Choosing a GCC-spec 2026 model ensures you are covered by the local distributor's service contracts and warranty, a major differentiator against grey-market imports.

EXR vs Lower Trims

The EXR trim serves as the foundation of the Fortuner's 4x4 lineup, adding essential utility over base 4x2 variants including the part-time 4WD system with Hi/Low range. While it utilizes durable fabric seating better suited to the summer heat than basic synthetics, it still provides the 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that GCC commuters demand. It strikes the perfect balance for owners who want Toyota's legendary durability without the premium price tag of the leather-clad VXR.

Fortuner vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mitsubishi Montero Sport and Ford Everest, the Fortuner leads in regional parts availability and authorized service density across the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Its body-on-frame construction provides a level of ruggedness for desert driving that monocoque rivals like the Hyundai Santa Fe cannot match. Additionally, the 80-litre fuel tank offers superior range for long-distance cruising between Abu Dhabi and the Northern Emirates.

Running Costs & Resale

The 2.7L powertrain is famously under-stressed, contributing to its status as one of the slowest-depreciating vehicles in the GCC market, typically losing only 8-10% annually. Real-world fuel consumption averages approximately 10.3 L/100km, though this can vary during peak summer months when the heavy-duty AC is at full capacity. Service intervals are a standard 10,000 km, and with the largest service network in the region, maintenance is both affordable and convenient regardless of which emirate you reside in.

Performance & Capability

The Fortuner is built for durability rather than sprinting, with its 164 hp engine focused on low-end torque for navigating sandy tracks and inclines. The 225 mm ground clearance and part-time 4WD system make it a genuine contender for weekend trips to areas like Maleha or Al Qudra. On the highway, the 6-speed automatic provides a composed ride, while the manual locking rear differential provides the necessary traction for recovering from soft sand patches.

Comfort & Cabin

Designed for large families, the cabin features a versatile 7-seat layout with dedicated rear AC vents that are critical for passenger comfort during the Gulf's 45°C summers. The EXR interior focuses on ergonomics and easy-to-clean materials, making it ideal for families with children or those who frequently head outdoors. Acoustic glass and improved insulation help keep the cabin quiet and cool, even during extended midday highway drives.

Safety

Standard safety equipment on the EXR includes a comprehensive airbag system with a dedicated driver's knee airbag, alongside Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) tuned for varying surfaces. Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) is particularly useful for navigating inclined dunes or parking garage ramps. The inclusion of a rear-view camera and parking sensors as standard equipment ensures easier maneuvering in tight urban environments like Dubai Marina.

The bottom line

This GCC-spec Fortuner is the perfect match for a buyer who values mechanical longevity and high resale value over flashy electronics. It is a battle-tested family workhorse that is ready for both the school run and the sand dunes.
