Summary

This 2026 iteration represents the current gold standard for commercial and private passenger transport across the Gulf, offering a rare combination of the high-output 3.5L V6 engine and a manual gearbox for total driver control. As a GCC-spec model finished in high-resale White, it is perfectly suited for the regional market where heat-rejection and parts availability are top priorities. With seating for more than nine passengers, this specific vehicle offers a level of utility that outclasses smaller MPVs while maintaining the legendary reliability that local buyers expect from this nameplate. It is an ideal purchase for anyone looking for a long-term asset that will hold its value remarkably well compared to any European or Chinese competitor. The manual transmission paired with the 277 horsepower engine makes it particularly robust for heavy-duty use in the hilly terrain of the Northern Emirates or long-haul regional routes. For a GCC buyer, this is the safest bet for a high-occupancy vehicle that offers minimal downtime and maximum resale liquidity.

This Car vs Other 2026 Hiaces

Being a 2026 model, this vehicle is at the absolute start of its lifecycle, ensuring that it carries the latest safety enhancements and cabin refinements. In a market where these vehicles often accumulate 30,000 to 40,000 kilometers annually, procuring a 2026 model now means you are securing a vehicle with its entire service life ahead of it. The white exterior is the most sought-after color for this model in the GCC, as it reflects the intense summer sun and keeps the air conditioning system from overworking. Compared to older units or those with higher mileage, this example provides a fresh mechanical slate and the peace of mind of a full manufacturer-supported lifecycle. It stands out in the current used market as a nearly-new option that bypasses the long waiting lists often found at official dealerships for this specific passenger configuration.

GL vs Lower Trims

The GL trim is a significant step up from the base Panel Van or standard commuter variants, focusing heavily on passenger comfort rather than just utility. You get higher-quality interior materials and better sound insulation, which is a massive advantage during high-speed highway cruising between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Unlike the entry-level models, the GL features upgraded seating with more ergonomic support and enhanced climate control distribution for the rear rows. It also typically includes aesthetic upgrades such as body-colored bumpers and chrome accents that give it a more professional appearance for hospitality or corporate use. The semi-bonnet design inherent in this generation provides a more premium ride quality than the cab-over designs of the past, and the GL trim maximizes this by adding better cabin tech and finishing.

Hiace vs Segment Rivals

When compared to the Nissan Urvan or the Ford Transit, this vehicle leads the pack primarily through its powertrain and resale reputation. The 3.5L V6 engine produces a substantial 277 horsepower, which is significantly more than many of its four-cylinder competitors, allowing for effortless overtaking even when fully loaded with nine or more passengers. While the Ford Transit offers a different ergonomic layout, it cannot match the Toyota's widespread parts availability in every corner of the GCC, from Muscat to Riyadh. The rear-wheel-drive configuration is preferred by local fleet operators for its durability and simpler maintenance profile compared to front-wheel-drive alternatives. Furthermore, the cooling capacity of the Toyota air conditioning system is widely regarded as the best in the segment, a critical factor for any buyer in the Middle East.

Running Costs & Resale

Owning this vehicle in the GCC is a lesson in fiscal efficiency, as it consistently displays the lowest depreciation rates in the entire bus segment. On average, a well-maintained GCC-spec Hiace will only lose 8-10% of its value annually, whereas European vans can see drops of up to 20% in the same period. Fuel consumption for the 3.5L V6 is predictable; while the petrol engine is larger than some base models, its ability to run on 91 or 95 octane fuel found everywhere in the UAE makes it highly convenient. Service intervals are typically every 10,000 kilometers, and with the largest authorized service network in the region, you are never more than a short drive from a certified technician. The manual transmission further reduces long-term running costs by being simpler and cheaper to maintain than complex automatic counterparts, particularly in high-mileage scenarios.

Performance & Capability

The standout feature is the 277-horsepower 6-cylinder engine, which provides a level of performance rarely seen in the commercial bus segment. This power is essential for Maintaining speed on the 140 km/h motorways of the UAE while the vehicle is at its maximum gross weight. The manual transmission allows the driver to keep the engine in its optimal power band, which is incredibly useful when navigating the mountainous roads of Salalah or the Hajar mountains. With its rear-wheel-drive setup, the vehicle handles predictable loads with ease and offers a tight turning circle for its size, making it surprisingly nimble in urban traffic. The 2026 model also benefits from a chassis tuned for stability, ensuring that crosswinds on open desert highways do not disrupt the passenger experience. Ground clearance is ample for navigating speed humps and unpaved access roads frequently encountered in newer suburban developments.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the 9+ seating configuration is designed with adult-sized passengers in mind, offering generous legroom that rivals many executive SUVs. The cabin is specifically engineered for the GCC climate, featuring a high-capacity dual air conditioning system with vents that reach every single row to ensure uniform cooling during 50°C summers. The semi-bonnet design moves the engine away from under the front seats, which dramatically reduces heat transfer and noise into the cabin compared to older van designs. Large windows provide excellent visibility for tourists or commuters, while the insulation has been upgraded to keep the interior quiet at cruising speeds. The floor is typically finished in durable materials that are easy to clean, making it a practical choice for high-frequency daily use. The five-door configuration allows for easy entry and exit, with wide-opening doors that facilitate quick boarding.

Safety

Safety is a top priority for the 2026 GL trim, which comes equipped with a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems. It features multiple airbags, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Vehicle Stability Control, which are essential for a high-center-of-gravity vehicle during emergency maneuvers on the highway. The 5-star NCAP rating reflects a modernized structural design that provides a far superior safety cell compared to older van generations. Standard features include Anti-lock Braking Systems (ABS) and Hill-start Assist Control, which prevents the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline—a common occurrence in multi-story parking garages. For GCC drivers, the inclusion of clear, high-intensity halogen headlamps and large side mirrors ensures excellent visibility during night drives across the desert or in heavy city rain.

The bottom line

For the savvy GCC operator or large family, this 2026 GCC-spec GL Bus is the ultimate low-risk, high-utility investment. It combines the most powerful engine in its class with the highest resale value on the market, making it the smartest purchase available for high-occupancy transport.
