Toyota Hilux GLX

Highlights

• 245 Nm of torque
• Extensive GCC authorised service network
• 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Summary

This GCC-spec Hilux offers the perfect balance between professional utility and daily urban comfort. Featuring the reliable 2.7L petrol engine, it avoids the complexities of diesel maintenance while providing a smooth driving experience via the 6-speed automatic gearbox. The white exterior is the most sought-after color in the region, ensuring maximum heat reflection and a higher resale floor. As a 2027 model year, it benefits from the latest lighting and cabin technology updates that make it a standout choice for those needing a truck that feels like a modern SUV inside. Ownership across the GCC is seamless thanks to Toyota's unmatched parts availability and service support in every major city.

This Car vs Other 2027 Hiluxs

With average GCC annual mileage often reaching 25,000 km, this current model year example represents a prime opportunity to secure a near-new vehicle. Its white finish is the highest-demand resale color in the UAE and Saudi markets, consistently commanding faster turnaround times and better price retention than darker alternatives. Choosing a petrol automatic variant over the basic manual work-trucks ensures a significantly more comfortable commute in stop-start city traffic.

GLX vs Lower Trims

The GLX trim bridges the gap between basic utility and daily convenience, adding an 8-inch touchscreen with full smartphone integration that is absent on the entry-level GL. Buyers also benefit from upgraded interior materials and separate front seats rather than the commercial-grade bench, providing better support for long highway drives. Exterior enhancements like body stripes and integrated LED daytime running lights give it a more premium road presence than the stripped-back base variants.

Hilux vs Segment Rivals

Compared to the Mitsubishi L200 or Nissan Navara, the Hilux leads in terms of overall durability and the sheer scale of its authorized service network across the entire GCC. The 2.7L Dual VVT-i engine is specifically engineered for high-heat environments, offering a proven mechanical simplicity that many turbocharged rivals cannot match for long-term reliability. Its high-mounted air intake and robust chassis design are also better suited for the occasional weekend desert trek.

Running Costs & Resale

Fuel consumption for the 2.7L petrol engine typically averages around 10.4 L/100km, which is efficient for a body-on-frame truck in GCC highway conditions. Standard service intervals are every 10,000 km, though many local owners opt for 5,000 km minor oil changes due to the extreme summer heat and dust. The Hilux remains a gold standard for value retention, typically depreciating just 8-10% annually, which is significantly lower than most European or American competitors in the pickup segment.

Performance & Capability

The 164 hp petrol engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, providing linear power delivery that is ideal for both urban cruising and hauling light loads. While this RWD configuration is optimized for road efficiency, its 1,900 kg curb weight and high ground clearance allow it to navigate gravel paths and rural terrain with confidence. The 245 Nm of torque is accessible low in the rev range, making highway overtaking predictable even when the bed is loaded.

Comfort & Cabin

Inside, the five-seat layout features upgraded fabric upholstery and a revised dashboard design that prioritizes ergonomics. The powerful air conditioning system is a hallmark of GCC-spec Toyotas, designed to bring cabin temperatures down rapidly even after the vehicle has been parked in 45°C sun. Connectivity is handled by the 8-inch display, while physical dials for the climate control allow for easy adjustment without taking your eyes off the road during long drives.

Safety

Safety is managed by a suite of active systems including Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control, which are vital for maintaining composure on sandy or rain-slicked surfaces. This trim includes front airbags for the driver and passenger as standard, along with an Emergency Call System (E-Call) for added peace of mind. The high driving position provides excellent natural visibility, further aided by the latest LED projector headlamps for superior nighttime illumination on unlit desert highways.

The bottom line

This Hilux is the ideal choice for a buyer who wants the legendary 'indestructible' reputation of a Toyota truck combined with the technology and ease of an automatic petrol daily driver.
