2017 Volkswagen Golf R400 – One seriously Hot Hatch

Hot Hatches are fantastic. Zippy, quick and easy to park and best of all, most brush them off as not being powerful enough to keep up. Well, those people are to be proved wrong very soon, as Volkswagen’s most iconic hatchback is on the way with a little trick up its sleeve.

Shown off as early as 2014 in China, this hot hatch hasn’t seen much limelight over that period. However, come May or June 2016, that’s all about to change as it’s to be revealed in either of those months.

So what’s so fantastic about this Golf R400, it’s got a 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder petrol motor which is standard in its segment, however, there’s a hidden meaning in its name. Roughly 400 horsepower is sent to all-four-wheels, which is bonkers and puts the R400 on top of every other hot hatchback. It’s said to sprint from 0-100 km/h in around four seconds; that’s quicker than the new 2016 BMW M2 and the 1994 Bugatti E110!

That’s right; you can get yourself a hatchback that can beat a Bugatti at the lights.

With such a powerful engine, comes tweaked bodywork that includes a new front splitter and rear spoiler. High-performance brakes are mounted behind each rim for greater stopping power from the increased power. Aside from all that, it’s very similar in design to the GTi and R models but that’s understandable as it’s still a Golf.

Once debuted, it will be the first Volkswagen company owned vehicle to sport the potent engine was first shown off mounted in an Audi TT Quattro Sport concept.

With most models such as this one popping up in the line-up of what’s considered a daily drive, you’ll be surprised to know that this won’t be a limited production model and will join in on daily commutes. An exact date is unknown and prices are set to start at around  55,000 (Approx. AED 227,576).
