2019 Nissan Altima launches in New York

This year’s New York Auto Show plays host to numerous regional and global debuts in the automotive industry. Included in the long list is the updated 2019 Nissan Altima.

Sporting the now standard Nissan V-Motion grille and a pair of aggressive headlights, the 2019 Nissan Altima draws inspiration from the Vmotion 2.0 Concept shown of 12 months ago and flashes of the larger Maxima saloon. However, the model isn’t drastically different compared to the current version besides the new black finish behind the rear doors to give the roof a ‘floating’ appearance. Instead, the car features a wide variety of the latest safety options and two new drivetrains.

Speaking for drivetrains, the latest iteration of the Altima drops the 3.5-litre V6 in for a 2.0-litre inline four good for 248 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque and is available with SR and Platinum trim levels. S, SV and SL come standard with a 2.5-litre petrol motor rated at 188 hp and 244 Nm of torque. As with the current model, front-wheel drive is standard, and for the first time, an all-wheel-drive system is available.

The 2019 Nissan Altima is the third model in Nissan’s lineup to receive the semi-autonomous ProPILOT Assist system. In particular situations including single-lane highways, the system reduces the amount of steering, braking and acceleration input needed by the driver.

Other safety features include; High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, radar-based Blind Spot, Rear Automatic Braking and more.

The cockpit of Nissan’s latest Altima sports a new set of seats, sports-inspired tri-spoke multifunction steering wheel, 8-inch multi-touch display with NissanConnect, Apple Carplay and Android Auto along with other options we’re familiar with.

The 2019 Nissan Altima will launch later this year along with an exclusive launch edition based on the Platinum VC-Turbo.
