2020 BMW X3 M and X4 M debut with rapid acceleration

Having leaked online yesterday,  BMW has officially revealed the all-new 2020 BMW X3 M and X4 M.

The two high-performance models are powered by a new twin-turbo six-cylinder 3.0-litre engine producing 473 horsepower and 598 Nm of torque. Connected to an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, both accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 280 km/h.

Additionally, BMW is offering slightly more powerful versions of the two; the X3 and X4 Competition. Featuring the same engine albeit slightly tuned to 503 horsepower, the 0-100 time drops to 4.1 seconds.

Seeing as all four models are M products, they come with an array of other performance enhancements.

Starting with the suspension, engineers have added custom torque arms, wishbones and swivel bearings up front. Similar upgrades have been made to the rear of the 2020 BMW X3 M and X4 M plus the Competition models as all have custom bushings and larger anti-roll bars.

All four ride on strengthed chassis and are equipped with an Active M Differential, an M Servotronic steering system and Adaptive M Suspension.

How to tell its a 2020 BMW X3 M

To tell the M variants apart from the M40i variants, the 2020 BMW X3 M and X4 M have a black grille and a more aggressive front end with larger air intakes.

Other notable differences are the aerodynamic mirror hubs, bespoke rear diffuser, four piece tailpipe and 20-inch orbit grey wheels.

Competition models are mostly similar, but do have their own unique touches. These include 21-inch wheels, M Sport Exhaust system with dark chrome tailpipes and high-gloss black accents.
