Aston Martin considering a DB11 six-cylinder

With Aston Martin cementing a bond with AMG to supply engines and various other car parts, the V8 is not the only piece of kit the British manufacturer has its eye on. Reports suggest a DB11 six-cylinder sports car could be on the agenda.

This model will utilise a 3.0-litre straight six engine rated at 429 horsepower borrowed from AMG. It will also boast an electric motor churning out 67 horses. Combined, the model will produce 496 hp.

With the introduction of another smaller engine unit, diehard V12 fans may be wondering if and when the final 12 cylinder motor will roll off the production line.

As it stands, Aston Martin has no plans to discontinue the V12.

As for a six-cylinder-powered Aston Martin, one hasn’t been built for a long time with the last example being the Aston Martin DB7 which ended production in 2004.

With increased pressure from certain authorities enforcing stricter guidelines regarding increased fuel economy and emission standards, implementing a six-cylinder motor somewhere along the line is a step in the right direction.

When to expect the DB11 six-cylinder

While the model has yet to be confirmed, in a recent interview, DB11 Line Director, Paul Barritt said: “we’d be foolish not to be looking at the sixes.”

It’s not just the DB11 that will benefit from a six-cylinder engine. Rumour has it; the brand also plans to adopt the motor for their upcoming 488 rival.

In other Aston Martin news, recently, CEO Andy Palmer confirmed the quaint British brand will be 100% hybrid come the middle of 2020.

Dubicars.com has new Aston Martin DB11 and used Aston Martin DB11 for sale in Dubai.
