BMW X7 engines revealed

Last weeks offering of BMW news showcased a BMW X7 heavily cloaked with only LED headlights on display. This week, reports have emerged about what powers all four corners of the range topping SUV.

According to reports, BMW X7 SUV’s will be available with three power plants including two petrol units and a single diesel one. The X7 xDrive 40i is fuelled by a 3-litre TwinPower Turbo six cylinder rated at 335 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque.

X7 xDrive 50i models benefit from a larger 4.4-litre TwinTurbo V8 punching out 445 horses and 648 Nm or torque. Lastly is the Diesel unit or the X7 xDrive 40d which will be available in select markets.

However, there is one BMW X7 engine missing from the document that we’ve heard time and time again; the mighty 12 cylinder motor. Whether or not that will be included later on in its life cycle or has already been dropped in favour for smaller units.

Also missing from the report is the plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Additionally, the document details for an X2 engine destined for the US. 28i models hide a 2-litre turbocharged engine underneath the bonnet. Rated at 228 horsepower and 349 Nm or torque; an 8-speed automatic gearbox drives either the front or all-four wheels.

Not only did the document reveal BMW X7 engines, parts highlighted coupe and convertible models of the new 8-Series and an M2 Competition also known as M2 CSL.

Power units of the X7 should be confirmed next month in Frankfurt where the model is expected to be on display.
