Celebrate 50 years of the Corolla in 2017

That’s right; the Toyota Corolla celebrates 50 years this year! Can you believe it? We sure can’t, it seems as if it was only yesterday this affordable sedan rolled off the production line for the first time.

Loved across the GCC and around the globe, 2017 not only marks half a century of moving the world but also an all new look. In 2017 trim, the Corolla is to sport a new front grille, LED headlights and a set of stunning new wheels adorning each corner to top specification. Standard models will receive the new front end along with smaller LED’s and 16-inch rims with higher tiers receiving, fancier headlights and 17-inch rims.

Inside, a new choice of upholstery is on offer, and standard models are now equipped with Bluetooth and an Entune sound system. If that is not enough, premium upgrades include a higher quality sound system, navigation and a touch screen display. What else does one need?

Toyota hasn’t stopped there; they also include their Saftey Sense-P system which consists of dynamic cruise control, automated high beams, lane departure assist and pedestrian detection.

Powering the front wheels is a four-cylinder 1.8-litre petrol engine rated at 140 horsepower which is an eight hp increase of last year’s model. Power is channelled exclusively through an automatic gearbox.

Just how popular is the Corolla? Only 43 million units have been sold around the world in those five decades and expect that number to rise significantly over the next years.

When the 2017 version is to hit showrooms across the UAE and the rest of the GCC is unknown, but we expect it before the end of the year.
